Second regular season game so far at Gampel. Large fun energetic crowd. They should play here again.

I couldn't agree more, Danny. And while they will, I'd be very happy if we played every home game at Gampel and never played another one at the XL. Gampel provides us with the significant home court edge our kids deserve in terms of court familiarity and the wonderfully enthusiastic student support that comes with the on-campus games.

Although the XL's seating capacity is much greater, the two venues pretty much draw similar numbers, but a full house at Gampel really rocks- that energy is something else, and the XL just doesn't have it. I must assume it's a contractual, money issue that results in so many games being played at the XL. While Storrs is far less accessible than Hartford (for many fans, I suspect), and the parking stinks, I would gladly deal with those inconveniences in order to enjoy the far better overall experience that old Gampel provides.

The XL venue is also 'political' on the part of the University - there are more power brokers in terms of funding for the University and the athletics department who can easily make games in Hartford than in Storrs. And supporting a capital city arena by providing some of its better pay days I am sure does not go unnoticed. The interest in Bridgeport and in the Mohegan Sun arenas are similar moves. With many states seriously cutting funding for education and especially for higher education every bit of positive good will helps.

I wish UCONN "suits" made the new training facility at Gampel and made a NEW GAMPEL where the training facility is!
With all the needed things, theater seating, 14,000+ capacity (no bleacher seats), better food concessions, bigger bathrooms, etc.
Then no XL games!

Thanks so much, Danny, for these wonderful pics! I hope to attend a game at Gampel one day.
That's next on the bucket list when it comes to watching these amazing Huskies play.
Well, truth be told, I guess it would be Indy first. ;)

I still wish they would make a new Gampel on the edge of campus - ideally at the intersection of rte 195 and 44, or rte 195 and 32. Both are close enough for the university bus system to provide five minute rides from the center of campus, but would also allow the arrival and departure of cars from the venue to be considerably less arduous and time consuming. The current location is about two miles of bumper to bumper traffic in any direction before you reach reasonably open roads.

Oh boo hoo hoo! I feel so bad for people who get to see the Huskies in person but must do so at inferior venues. Here I sit in frosty Illinois (actually trying to get over pneumonia) hoping that some day UConn schedules a road game at Illinois State. Yeah, right. On top of that, you whiners have the Atlantic current to give you warm winters. It's true... I read it on the Internet. :)

Funny you should reference the Don that outfought Santino.

I just watched it for the 1,217,347,175th time on HBO. The loooooooong version.

ME, TOO! They called it "The Godfather Epic." The best ever! Leave the gun, take the canolies.
