Scorers, especially on ball scorers, can absolutely be redundant. There's only one ball. Scorers aren't doing anything for you if they're not in the current process of scoring. Shooters are beneficial in quantity for spacing, absolutely, that helps the others in your offense. But there are play finishers and advantage creators. Solo is a scorer, but he's a play finisher. Some of his off ball movement creates advantages, but he rarely created advantages that led to scoring for others last season, which makes him a finisher. Braylon was the same in the exhibition. It's great to have wide receivers, but what happens to your offense if your quarterback and offensive line isn't good? In basketball, I consider passing and "feel" to be a compounding skill, as passing by definition involves other players in the offense, and if those players are also excellent passers it just accelerates the effect further and builds on itself. 1+1=3+1=6 situation. The 24 team had 4 excellent passers. Your scoring opportunity can go from contested to open to wide open with good passers. You need players who can generate and then pass on advantages to others. Demary was okay at that last year, but he was not a prolific advantage generator. There's hope he can be better in a better scheme and a year older. Smith is definitely excellent in that regard, but comes with other shortcomings. Karaban is a very good passing 4 man. Reed is a finisher. As mentioned, Solo was a finisher last year and Braylon was one in the exhibition. You can have a very good offense with 3 quality finishers in the starting lineup, but it's harder to have that top 5 offense in the country without at least 3 creators. Really need 1 or both of Solo and Braylon to become creators.
