Women Field Hockey

Field Hockey has always been an elite national program with 15 Final Four appearances and 5 National Championships, including 2013, 2014, and 2017. I realize Nancy Stevens retired, but how has the program fallen so much? We went 11-7 last year and are currently 1-5 this year!

Yea its not a good trend. With 3 national campionshis in the last 10 years, to be unranked is almost incomprehensible (only 79 D1 programs). Former players all loved and spoke highly of Paul but he has had a hard time keeping the momentum up following Nancy.

Quite a few of our fall programs have been struggling the past few years.

Under Nancy Stevens, the UConn field hockey team recruited many excellent international players. Stevens retired after the 2019 season, just before the Covid pandemic started. I believe I heard somewhere that the pandemic had a big effect on international recruiting, and one of the results is that it had a significant impact on the quality of the UConn field hockey program.
