In the Big East semifinals yesterday, UConn beat Old Dominion 4-3 on ODU's home field. ODU is normally one of the top rated field hockey schools, so I'm not sure how they could have ended up being a 4 seed, but they were. Anyway, the Lady Monarch's are certainly UConn's biggest competitor in the Big East. On Sunday, the Big East finals will pit UConn against Temple. By the way, the Huskies beat Temple 8-0 about a month ago in Pennsylvania, so I figure that there is a rather good chance that UConn will go onto the NCAA tournament with a perfect record.

UConn Field Hockey, with an undefeated record, was given the 4th overall seed in the tournament. Behind Syracuse (who lost today), UNC (lost 2 games), and laughably UVA who lost 5 times this year including to Old Dominion and Boston College who UConn beat 3 times. They also sport an impressive 8-3 drubbing of a loss to UNC. Man that tough ACC is worth a lot of leeway. UConn will have it's shot against the ACC facing Louisville and than possibly BC in the next round.

Talk about disrespect and bulletin board material.

Just doesn't make sense. The selection committee is placing way too much emphasis on RPI and not enough on results on the field.

Anyway, two years ago UConn beat ACC teams in three of its four tournament games on its way to the title. Looks will have to take a similar path this season.

UConn beat Louisville 3-0.

They get another ACC team tomorrow in BC with a shot to go to the Final 4.

UVA meanwhile needed OT to get by Delaware on their home field.
