Giscombe, Hobbs and Bailey was a decent class.
Earl Kelley and Tim Coles were a pretty good duo.
The breakthrough seems to have been the Donyell Marshall class.

It was - we had the second-best class that year, behind only the Fab 5.

Very interested in seeing what our 2019 class is. I think 2018 is likely to be very good, but 2019 can end up as our first top 5 group in a while.

jayteeman some great memories thanks - to see some of the names who we've somewhat forogtten is great. For instance:

Jim "Disco" Sullivan
Bruce Kuczenski (played against Bruce in HS when was a soph Ram from BC)
Larry Blucher (hit 2 big FT's at the Dome in an upset)
Terrence Warren
Tex Spradling
Bill Lanes
Chris Fleming (great shooter believe he was on the Spider team that beat the Cuse?)

'91-92 was the breakout year for JC, put recruiting on a whole new map!

Thanks

Freeman, Hamilton Voskuhl one or Gordon Okafor one. The Donny, Donyell, and Ollie one is awesome because as upstater points out it was the breakthough class, it also brought us Kevin Ollie which is huge. The 2001/2002 class is crazy. With basically a two person class we got the best player in the country and arguably the best guard in the country, #2 and #3 picks in the draft. I knew as soon as I saw them play as freshman that they would win a National Championship at some point. RIP Chad Wise.

What about the 2-man class of Rudy Gay and AJ Price?

I think for sheer star power at the time there is no better class. We thought we came away with the best PG and the best SF going to college.

Thanks for putting this together. Really tough to pick a favorite with so many great classes, but I'd go with Emeka and Ben as the overall best class.

Gotta love that 96-97 class. Also 2010-2012, no wonder we put it together in 14'.

Hasn't amounted to anything just yet but on paper it would seem the 16-17 class MIGHT be the most talented....

For me, Calhouns great class with Donyell as first stud recruit would be hard to beat - they had size, speed, athleticism
and skill. I'm 90% sure that Rudy Johnson was also part of that class. He was probably one of the best recruits that we ever had
that due to injuries, didn't live up to expectations. People don't realize that he was actually the Florida player of the year his Junior year and then injuries started effecting his game. He was a high flyer similar to Norman Bailey when he got here but just kept having injury issues with his knees.

Rudy was a part of that class, and was in fact a top 25 recruit. Shame about the injuries for sure!

For me, it's Okafor and Gordon. NCAA champs, #2 and #3 in the NBA draft. But there are a lot of great classes in there (and some duds).

The 91-92 class brought this program to a level where it was consistently in contention and made UConn basketball what it would become: starting in 1994 we earned a #1 or #2 seed 10 times in 16 years.

Edit: It's pretty amazing to realize that Rudy and AJP came in as part of the same class.

They never played together and were the defining player of two completely distinct teams.

So Calhoun first recruit was Lyman DePriest? Perfect. The toughest SOB coach recruits the toughest player he could find. That set the tone. I love it.

As I posted on here before, I was at a game at the civic center and saw Rudy Johnson loaded onto a stretcher, and taken away. The amount of injuries the guy had were insane. Fortunately, he was able to redshirt and had a very solid fifth-year senior campaign in '95-'96 ( around 8ppg and very solid defense as the starting 3).

91-92 was an incredible class but I would have liked to seen 78/79 coached by JC.
Nothing against Dominic, but Mike McKay, Corny Thompson, and Norman Baily, and Alexinas and Kuczenski, in JC's hands would have meant at least one FF, back then. JC was the superior recruiter, so maybe Michael Adams might have worn Husky Blue.

Until the Corny Thompson class, and granted it was a different era, but the class that entered my first year was the best, but couldn't play varsity as freshmen. Wes Bialosuknia, Bill Holowaty, Tom Penders, Ron Ritter, Dick Thompson and PJ Curran. They joined with Toby Kimball for two years and a few other good upperclassmen to give UConn some visibility outside the old Ysnkee Conference.
