Thought Minny may have been a better fit given what the Sun lost to injury.

I think they got a happy confluence. Best available left AND works geographically.

Anyone want to bet me whether Clarendon will be around longer than Faris?

Not me.

I'm happy for Kelly but not convinced she was the best fit for the Sun.

Sometimes the best packages, aren't fancy wrapped,or come with tons of glitter. This young lady will not miss a beat, going from college to the pros, and i would bet,she will continue to work hard and keep improving her shot as time passes.I think the Sun will be pleased.

Does not fill a need & IMHO Sun don't need another UConn player for marketing. Can't see Kalana & Kelly both making the team. While Sugar Rodgers is not the overall player that Kelly is, Sugar would provide scoring & outside shooting which the Sun need. Sugar would have to learn to share the ball more then she did at Georgetown and improve her shooting percentage.

Why not both? Marketing may have influenced the decision but the Sun will love what they've gotten.

I don't think there is any question what Kelly brings to the table..we all know what kind of talents she has...the issue is whether she would be a good fit for CT...Perhaps if you think McCray and A. Jones come back next year...though that is not certain. Minny would have been ideal for her. I hope she does great, but this has a feel of a marketing trumps on court needs. IMHO

With all due respect to Sugar, I don't think she's ever done anything meaningful in any game of any importance...basically ever. And that's saying something given that it seemed like she was in college for 10 years.

There's part of me that thinks the Sun didnt fill their biggest needs, but they got a kid who did nothing but make her team better and will do the same in the pros.

Well I know that Renee Montgomery was hoping that they did pick Kelly. She said that people always say that the Sun load up with UConn players but on her twitter she said that Kelly would be a perfect fit. I agree though that Kalana will have to step it up this year.

On the first point, Sugar was an impact player from Day 1. She edged out Skylar for BE FOY. But after McNutt left, the team's success dropped off, as did Sugar's shooting percentage. She's a volume shooter who will shoot you into and out of games. But sub-40% is not very good; Kelly, in contrast, shot over 50% this year.

On the second point, I agree. Kelly will do what is needed to make her team better and grab some wins. I look for perfect entry passes to Tina, for example.

Kelly overlapped with Tina for 1 year, but not with Renee. Kelly and Renee will make each other better.

If Faris can make jump shots at the next level she can help.

There was a play in the finals that Kelly made - turn around jumper at the free throw line with the clock running out that was so smooth. I think Kelly can be a very good WNBA player and will surprise folks with her offense.
I am always surprised at the number of 'volume' shooters that get highly rated by GMs. I think Sugar is such a player, and I suspect Mathies is as well.

The battle for the roster spot, should there be one, would be between Kalana and McCray. Kelly fills the same roles but brings more than either of those two do. This is the second major injury to McCray in 3 years.

Bottom line, Kelly helps any team she is on. You can't go wrong with a player like Kelly.

I've been tweeting the Fever personnel tonight, I told them it was a huge mistake but they are lucky that we will buy tickets for at least 3 games - when the Sun comes to town.

I'm thrilled we are keeping Kelly in Ct! I hope it turns out to be the right fit for her! I'm a huge Sugar Rogers fan as well. Sugar can light it up and I am sure will adopt with other great players around her. She almost knocked us out of the regionals Temple 3 yrs ago- without loads of support.i hope they both do great things!!!

Kelly was the best player on the board so I can see the Sun taking her even if she wasn't exactly what they needed. Really wanted Kelly to get to Minnesota or somehow drop to Phoenix in the 2nd round, but I was happy to see Moore go to Minnesota if Kelly couldn't.

Lawson, Montgomery, Hightower, White, Greene, and Faris give the Sun their 6 perimeter players for this season, and the one thing Kelly has over of all of those players is that she is the best passer out of all of them. Kelly's ability to actually make post entry passes into Tina will be something important she potentially brings to the Sun. There is just going to be much more pressure on Kelly to be an offensive threat out of the gate with the Sun than if she had a gone to a team with 2 true perimeter scorers like a Minnesota.

I just LOVE the fact that our Kelly one seed is annoying the Fever with harangues about their obvious miscue!

Among other things, I don't think the Sun wanted to see Kelly wearing a Lynx uniform...
