Think the pitcher needs to have the ball on the mound before the ump will call time. The kids were running the ball to first base and trying to do the same thing and the umpire wasn't granting them the time out. Couple years ago my nephew was in little league and if a kid hit one to the outfield, the outfield would throw the ball to second as fast as they could and immediately call timeout. For some reason the umpire granted it and the coaches were losing their minds because they had runners in the middle of the base paths and would make them go back to third or second. Fairfield was just taking of the advantage that SD never practiced getting a kid in a rundown with a man on 3rd and they were trying to get the kid between first and second to buy enough time to let the kid from 3rd score. I've never seen it work that many times in a row though without getting your runner tagged out or getting the person at home thrown out or scoring. You need to get one of the two. Feels like it would have saved them like 5 runs lol. SD's coach looked like he was ready to have steam come out of his ears.
