Explaination of Sharib interference penalty

During the UMass game, 2/27 Sharib was coming out of the penalty box and gained possession of a loose puck. Why was he called for interference?

Sharib was still in the penalty box when he played the puck. A player coming out of the box has to return fully to the ice before he can play the puck.
