The national games are only on (semi) local networks. Does that not defeat the purpose of having the tour keep the Women's game in the national spotlight.

Lubbock Christian at Texas getting underway on the Longhorn Network.

Color analyst is a face I haven't seen in a very long time: Andrea Lloyd

Texas has several players injured:
Sutton, stress fracture in foot
Holmes, sprained ankle
Warren, concussion protocol
Palmer, mid-foot sprain (but might play tonight)

Man. More beat up than their football team.

Re Texas - I had hoped to see more from Charlie Collier. Tonight, she committed the same frustration fouls as last season. Texas MUST have Joyner Holmes on the floor! When she and Sutton return, things should look a bit brighter. In the meantime, nice game from sophomore guard Joanne Allen-Taylor. Lashann Higgs looked good coming off her ACL injury. She does not have the same extraordinary quickness and body control yet but she will still get by most people.

It could be another long season for Texas.

Granted, they were missing Holmes and Sutton today and only dressed 8 players, including a walk-on. But a lot of the same systemic problems that plagued them last year were evident today. Offensive stagnation, lack of movement, lack of cohesion, too much reliance on individual playmaking.

Texas jumped out to a double-digit lead in 1Q with hot 3-point shooting. They led by as much as 16 or 17 in 2Q before they cooled off considerably and Lubbock Christian gradually chipped away at the deficit. Early in 4Q they cut it to 4 before Texas went on a small run to secure the win. If not for the early 3-point shooting, Texas could've easily lost this game. They started 6-10 from 3 but went 2-12 the rest of the way.

Compounding their short bench today was major foul trouble that forced Collier and Underwood to sit long stretches. With Collier as their only true center, it's absolutely imperative that she stay on the floor.

Having said all that, Lubbock Christian is no joke. They remind me more of a quality mid-major like South Dakota State than a D-II team. They'd beat a lot of D-I teams. They space the floor well, shoot it well from 3, and play with poise and toughness. I don't expect them to stay as close with either Baylor or MSU as they did with Texas, but I also don't think they'll let Baylor score 150 points.

Gotta give it up to Lubbock Christian... Texas, Baylor and MS St. are their first 3 exhibition game opponents! Understand the Bear's Cox's little sis is a Chap freshman.

Maryland plays Lincoln U. tonight at 6 PM. They played former Div II national champion California University of Pa. on Friday. It was really competitive in the first half at 36-30 because Maryland had 16 turnovers. Maryland scored 39 points in the 3rd period to put the game away. Monica Burns the record holder for consecutive free throws plays for them and had 29 points. The three Maryland freshmen played fairly well.

Interested to see TN tonight. Not even for the score or opponent but offensive sets, flow, and effort. Will have recap after the game with honest thoughts.

Tennessee thoughts:
Wow it amazing to see no balls being thrown into the stands, no people looking around and then the ball being chucked at the hoop. I think a few times I saw 15+ passes on a few possessions. However a lot of shots rimmed out and the shooting was not the best tonight. Also went under EVERY screen. One thing I did like was I didn’t see one single person hang their head and I saw the girls communicate and instruct again small things but these have not been seen in the past.

Jordan Horston:
once we she gets her feet under her shes gonna be an all American. She is a woman amongst girls and it is clear she didn’t shoot well but I’m impressed again game 1 but the potential was there she was on another level.

Rennia Davis and Rae Burrell:
Both look like brand new players. Rennia looks confident and knows this is her team. Rea looks much more comfortable. Girl has all the Athleticism in the world shes just learning to put it together.

Other Thoughts:
JUCO transfer started. High IQ had good position and made smart decisions. Won’t light it up but will do the small things. The Australians shoot the three and although a little off the ball looks like it is going in EVERY time. The bigs Kushkituah and Key are decent but will need a few games to warm up. Key has all the potential and blocked 4-5 shots but just needs some experience out there.

Overall:
Team had full effort the entire game. Team did not shoot well at all and the game was at a slower pace but the pieces are there. Tenn experimented a ton. Horston, Davis, Green , Burrell, Massengill are all going to be hard to guard. It’s just how Harper gets them all to work together will be what to watch.

It's almost like losing 7 of your top players in a single offseason is...bad.

Would love to have the same level of detail about who played and how much for ND but that article is only interested in Purdue.

After I found this I went over to McGraw’s Bench to see if someone posted the ND info, but didn’t see anything.

Post it if you find it.

And Indiana State has a 100% new roster this year, so the Irish aren’t in the worst shape. Silver linings?
