Phil Knight is an Oregon alum and benefactor, similar to T. Boone Pickens' multi-hundred-million support of Oklahoma State. It benefits Nike greatly to have Oregon win and give them major exposure, such as in next week's national championship football game. Much of Nike's and/or Phil's support goes to athletic facilities and whatever else it takes to attract superior athletes and coaches in order to ensure this exposure. Phil personally approved Mark Helfrich as the new head football coach after Chip Kelly left for the Eagles amid a brewing recruiting scandal.
