I have no problem with the NCAA requiring coaches (and I think Assistants as well) to show knowledge of the rules and regulations. Whether or not there is a compliance officer actually doing the work (and of course there is) the head coach is technically responsible. And there are several instances (Wiggins at one of the Mississippi schools comes to mind) where coaches have been fired for what their staff has done that they ought to have known about. The broader point that everyone is hinting at is, of course, that the holding of coaches responsible doesn't always happen, but that is different than having the mechanism to ensure they know what they are supposed to know.
