There is a Watch ESPN app for Apple TV. It was released earlier this summer. You should be able to watch the game through that.

We need to coach everyone up on how to connect your computer to your HDTV. Certainly not as easy as flipping on SNY, but actually pretty easy once you learn the proper computer cable to use. TVs will be large smartphones before we know it (actually I guess the newer ones are) so this will be a drill we won't have to perform for long

No, it has limited app support. The best way is Xbox, Apple TV, or connecting your laptop.
