Kevin Ollie's Huskies need a fearless offensive player who can score. As a high school player, Calhoun experienced equal parts success as a slasher and, by the end of his prep career, as a shooter. He also is toughness personified; he gets into the lane and wants to get fouled. His knack for shooting free throws is a gift.
To be an impact freshman, you must have talent and opportunity. Calhoun has both. Instead of being a deer-in-headlights freshman, expect him to come out firing from the tip. And remember that through the turmoil, he never wavered on his commitment to UConn. That's because he knew -- as did the Huskies -- they need an alpha-male scorer.
