He played a very efficient game.

I rewatched a little bit of the game. A couple of things impressed me about TRs game that is NOT in the stats. He has a good release, compact, the comes out of his hand quickly. He is also does a good job looking off the defense. Sometimes its just a little movement of his head, looking left before throwing over the middle. He also showed a willingness to make tight window throws. He doesn't need to see a wide open receiver before delivering the ball. It shows confidence. This is all really good stuff. Now he needs to build on it.

Against Memphis Casey threw well over 400 yards that day. His qb rating had to be sky high for that one game.
Good call. Casey's QBR was 92.9 for that. ESPN doesn't provide weekly results except for current season, but digging into it, they do have a "best games" sort for every season. And that shows what week the game was. So in week 15 of 2013, there appears to be only three QBs who had better games that week.

Sadly though, looking at that same list, there were three opposing QBs (Bortles, Kay, Licata) who had even better games against us.

Using that same methodology, Danny O definitely had a top 10 in 2004, maybe two. ESPN's QBR rating only goes back to 2004.

QBR is an adjusted QB rating that considers the strength of the defense, I’m not sure how exactly that’s calculated but it does change things.

On 12/7/13 vs Memphis, Casey Cochran was 36-54 (66.7%) for 461 yards with 4 TDs and no INTs for a QBR of 92.3

Earlier in the season against #20 Louisville, Casey earned his highest QBR of 98.5 by going 6-9 (66.7%) for 66 yards with 1 TD and no INTs. Put up much lower numbers but had an elite QBR score based on the opponent.

9/18/2018 against URI, David Pindell was 20-27 (74.1%) for 319 yards with 4 TDs and 1 INT. He also rushed for 137 and 2 TDs on the ground! His QBR that week was 86.8

Bryant Shireffs had some big games but usually did not earn a high QBR.

His best QBR was 84 on 8/21/2017 vs Holy Cross, going 9-13 (69.2%) for 124 yards and 1-0 TD-INT.

His next-best QBR was 64.6 against Navy in 2016, going 23-26 (88.5%) for 239 yards with 1 TD and no INTs.

9/30/2017 vs SMU, he went 22-27 (78.6%) for 408 yards with 2 TDs and no INTs for a QBR of 55.9

10/21/2017 vs Tulsa, 23-29 (79.3%) for 372 yards and 1-0 TD-INT for QBR 64.2

9/24/2017 vs ECU, 24-39 (61.5%) for 406 yards with 3-1 TD-INT for a 17.9 QBR.

QBR seems heavily influenced by the opponent.

2005 week 14 in a 41-35 win over Rutty, Danny I had the 2nd best performance of the week.

2005 week 2 in a 59-0 blow out of Liberty, Bonislawski was 4th best that week.

2008 week 5 in a 45-10 win over Virginia, Lorenzen was 3rd best QB of the week.

Bonsilawski also appears to have had a top 10 game vs Buffalo in 2005.

And it appears even Zach Frazer snuck in at #10 in a game vs USF in 2009.

So it looks like the guys who made top 10 are Danny O (3x), Bonislawski (2x), Lorenzen, Frazer, Cochran, a 13 year gap, and now TR.

Lorenzen only gets credit for one as ESPN's parameters are that the QB must've been involved in at least 20 action plays (pass or run).

Appears he was only 14th best that week, so misses the cut.

And just ftr, Zion's best game was 26th place (vs Liberty).

He did well last week. Threw 19 times and completed 15. That's impressive. The fact that they only had to throw 19 teams because of turnovers and the run game, I hope means that things have really turned around.

I had questions about Roberson having seen him live at Penn State and read all of our site's information regarding his progress as a player. He was always a talented kid, but I wondered if he would be one of those players who never put it all together on the field. I'm happy for both he and UConn that it appears that he has done just that.

I want him to keep progressing and really own that starting role so that there is no competition next summer.

It wouldn’t be a question if our dumb staff rightfully started him from the beginning.
How do you definitely know Fagnano wouldn't have made the same leap as Roberson? Roberson played very poorly in his first few appearances before figuring it out. Fagnano only had five healthy quarters before he was hurt. And Fagnano played two of our three toughest opponent in his less than two games.

You're just using 20-20 hindsight to dump on the coaching staff. I think they have done enough to earn our support.

Because Fagnano was a mediocre QB at the FCS level. We only gave Mora the benefit of the doubt because of last season, but we knew better all along.

I think you can fairly make a case that Fagnano was getting QB1 practice reps while Roberson was not. There's some basis as to why Roberson would need some time to catch up.

After Utah St game I asked if that game was an aberration or start of a positive trend. After Rice, that's two serviceable games. Not dynamic yet, but if you are completely 70% of your passes, no matter how pedestrian some of they may be, good things will happen on offense.

You have to remember, Roberson was coming off injury and didn't participate in Spring practice and they were easing him in during the pre-season. Fagnano participated in Spring practice and Charlton probably thought he was more prepared to start the season.

And he still looked the best of the group throughout camp according to everyone. There’s no excuses left, he was healthy and should’ve started game 1. It was a decision that cost us half the season, and that’s on the staff.

Not so sure he was 100% heading into first game. It was reported that TR tweaked his arm @ the end of camp and wasn’t throwing for a bit. With a kid coming back from being out for the year and making his way back - I don’t have a problem w/ the staff erring on the side of caution when an option was available. Is what it is.

Pal telling someone to ease up calling for the next QB to start, I want to frame this post and hang it on the wall.
