More on how he wants UK but isn't their top option.

"We imagine the announcement deadline could change depending on what direction UK goes, even if it's just an expression of increased interest, but we have to think it's either UConn or a west coast school at this point"

I don't like the fact that we're obviously just Kentucky's leftovers, but it's worked out for us before (see: Lamb, Bazz).

His most recent quotes sounded like a kid begging for a UK offer so I think it's a reasonable conclusion.

Hard to tell how good any player would be but from what I've seen Perkins should be our #1 priority.

I don't remember Bazz and Lamb being "pro-UK" or "UK leaning" as much as Perkins seems to be...Could you please provide evidence?? I remember Providence being in it with Bazz and schools like Texas and Georgia with Lamb.

You're right. I guess that's not quite the right example. In the case of Bazz, he was effectively our backup plan when the top prospects went to UK.

In this case, I'm miffed that we're so obviously Perkins's backup plan in case Squid decides to take someone else.

Different dynamic, but the same root cause.

I am to tired to remember who, but it was not Bazz and Lamb being recruited by Kentucky. It was one or two Kentucky players that UConn was involved with on the recruiting trail. That was one reason the semifinal win was sweet.

Yeah it does bug me that Perkins is in love with UK. Oh well, DBags always attract the one's you want! Right!?

Bazz was really the backup plan to Knight, Joseph, and Selby. Lamb was a plan A target from the jump, don't really let his ranking fool you into thinking JC "settled" for him. As for Perkins, hopefully a full court press from KO can change his mind and see how much he's wanted in Storrs, but the fact that he cut Duke when they told him he was their backup plan to Tyus Jones but isn't doing the same with UK while they wait out their main PG targets isn't a great sign.

Lets give Perkins a break here. There is not one quote from the kids mouth in this article. It's all speculation on the part of the writer, which is what most of these insider articles are about. If he commits to UConn he won't be thinking about Kentucky don't worry.

Hopefully at some point during the visit with Ollie, the disparity between how much we want this kid and how much UK wants him sinks in, and instead of holding out for the UK offer he signs here and enacts his revenge on UK later. It does seem like if UK offered, he'd commit on the spot, so Ollie's going to have a sell job to do (and given it took him about two minutes to sell me he was the man for the job, I'm more than confident he'll be able to).

His self-imposed deadline could well work in our favor if UK is not ready to offer and KO and Huskies do a great job selling him on campus during the visit. It sounds to me like his Dad is an asset for UConn. He would like to see his son play and Storrs is a lot closer than UK for him if he is in Boston (if I recall correctly).

Considering we got on him very late, it is awesome that we have this good of a shot at signing him. I'm not holding my breath, but signing him would put UConn on an amazing trajectory for signing top level talent.

Perkins's father is in Colorado, I think your mixing up Brandone Francis's father with Perkins's.

We've been in this spot before in different variations - didn't get Knight, lost on a bunch of kids who went to UNC, didn't get Jay Williams when he picked Duke, lost Jennings to Arizona, took Ben when Duke didn't offer, took Rashad when Florida wanted him to walk on, took Khalid when things fell apart with Minnesota, maybe got a break with Donyell when Syracuse went on probation, definitely caught a break when Kemba waited it out long enough for us to come around.

Once they commit, the whole recruiting process fades into a back story. Then they puke into a bucket on Oct. 15, and they're Huskies.

I'm almost certain Rashad had an offer from Florida. The story was that he wanted to come to UConn, had an uncle who was a UConn season ticket holder, but his father was pushing for Florida.

I agree in theory with the poster(s) who said they don't want to get Kentucky Fried leftovers... But... Just to put some perspective on it - As much as we love Ollie and know he's going to be a coaching rock star, he literally is brand new - barely has 1 year of HC experience, UCONN is coming off NCAA violations, a missed postseason, and about as much bad press over the 2 years preceding as we've probably ever seen.

My point is, I'm not sure if we will ever go head to head with schools like UNC, Kentucky, Duke, or maybe Kansas and be considered the favorite, but it also would not surprise me to see us go head to head with them in the future and win. I try not to get too overly enthused by Ollie yet, but from all I've seen/heard/read, he has the potential to be regarded as one of the elite premier coaches in the game. That will make UCONN an even more elite destination than it is...

Florida didn't offer early on, and then changed their mind and jumped in with an offer late, when the family strife began and we all thought we would lose him. If I recall right, he would have almost certainly been a Gator without that initial mess up. He was a little miffed by the idea he should be a walk on.

Worked out OK for Forida, though - they won two titles with the younger nucleus they developed in the next couple years. And Rashad of course got us some big buckets.

Must have, thanks. Think we could get him to move here?
