ESPN, Big East Reunite: Includes MBB games

The best news is often times ESPN would not show Big East highlights on sports-center, because of our deal with Fox, now even if our primary game is on Fox they may be inclined to show our highlights to boost our renewed relationship with them.

No one watches Sports Center to see highlights.

I think this is much ado about nothing, at least as far as men's basketball is concerned. ESPN's simply picking up the scraps as it normally does. A few of the games that used to air on FS2 will flip to ESPN+, which will rope in the handful of degenerates here and elsewhere that need to see UConn-Canisius on an NFL Sunday in November.

No relationship has been repaired or revitalized between the Big East and ESPN. It's just a minor business transaction that occurs between competing entities every day.

I resemble that degenerate.

The days of watching one thing at a time are over. I can stream the Husky game on an iPad and post throwaway comments in the chat on my phone while watching the Redzone on the big screen.

If there are 25 MBB non-conference games broadcast, that works out to 2.3 games per school. As for WBB, 75 games equals about 7 games per school. Remember, some schools like Providence WBB had many of their games on FloSports and UConn women had many games on SNY, so I would expect to see ~4 to 5 UConn WBB games on ESPN+.

FOX really doesn't have a good streaming service, so ESPN+ is one of the better options. Over the past few years, streaming has become more prominent for people watching sports with Amazon, Peacock, AppleTV, ...

As a Giants fan I have to say degenerates have the right idea, UConn Canisius sounds so much better in November!!

ESPN gets to keep UConn in purgatory for cheap in the Big East. Why pay more for them in the ACC or Big 12. ESPN has UConn right where they want them.
I agree with you in theory, but this is just tier 3 content.

NFL redzone is overrated. Try watching eight games at once and you'll never look at an NFL Sunday the same way.

What makes you think that ESPN cares that much about getting UConn "for cheap" anyway? They have a ton of money to spend on other programs. One more program wouldn't make much of a difference if they understood it to be worth it.

It beats a tier 3 deal with flo sports.

One of the reasons why we left the AAC was to UConn women's basketball off of ESPN+. Now, it's on ESPN plus at a discounted rate. No one beats the mouse.

For what it's worth, this deal makes having a Hulu live subscription a better choice than YouTube TV, because you can usually get a Hulu live bundled package that includes ESPN plus at about $83 a month.
Ahhhh, for the days when the women were on CPTV. Yes, those were the best times. Didn't have to go on an expedition trip trying to find the game. Oh well

For those of us who live out of state, that wasn't the best of times. I think that SNY will ultimately be remembered as the best coverage of Connecticut women's basketball. It's hard to imagine anything topping it.

$83 a month is what we used to pay for cable when we started grumbling about costs and channels no one watched. Now streaming services combine to be greater than cable costs which literally everyone predicted.
