Anybody who watched Castle can see how special of a player he is. The whole TNT crew couldn’t stop gushing over him.
He's perfectly primed to have a standout career. Awesome position to be in with Wemby and a hall of fame coach.

And that's with him airballing a three. He gets to 35% and he's going to be very difficult to defend.

How did Reed Sheppard get drafted ahead of Castle?
No idea. I was telling people here during pre-draft that Sheppard wasn't worth it that high but people persisted he would be a huge instant hit due to his shooting disregarding his height and body.

The Curry factor.

Made zero sense when you just look at the physicality of the two, with Steph having a way higher floor.

Steph is the UConn golden jewel right now in a steep drought in the NBA for Star Huskies. The kid is special and with Wemby, is going to be in the NBA limelight for a long time. He’s super marketable.

Reed sheppard shot over 50% from 3 on moderate volume. Led the league in steals. Showed tremendous athleticism at the combine.

All great stuff if he is a true point guard for a 6 foot 3 guy. A huge question mark.

Went to a Wizards game (don’t ask) and. despite playing most of the game, Alex Sarr was remarkably underwhelming. I don’t get it- I guess he’s supposed to be a homeless man’s Wemby?
He’s a 7 foot center who can stretch the floor. Those are a premium in the NBA. Issue is that he’s not that skilled, yet. Time will tell. Like you I don’t see the X factor there, but you never know with some development.

I still think Sheppard will be fine. I still think his status as a top PG in the draft was warranted.

However, I never advocated him going higher than Castle. I’ve thought Castle would be the best player in this draft for awhile. Just so you’re not totally conflating the two ideas.

How much of that is bias? Which UConn fan was taking Reed Sheppard in their personal mock? Yet the large majority of analysts did. Let’s not misconstrue hindsight genius for bias. I bet half this place had Steph 1, as this ain’t exactly a place of seeing this objectively, lol.

If the NBA saw how good he is at running a team as a PG he would’ve went one no question.

Announcers bring up all the time how we used him as a Swiss Army knife here but if you look at his HS tape you could see what we’re seeing now in the league.

Sare seems like a solid role player/off the bench reserve than someone with star potential.

SC's parents supported him and made him the great player and person he is today:

Mama Castle (Quannette) had a lot to say when he was being recruited and while playing at UConn and his Dad, Stacey, instilled great values in him while he was growing up.

"The lessons Stacey imparted were not just about basketball, but about hard work, humility, and perseverance."

What a career he'll have if he keeps the same mindset he has today.

If there was a re-draft today, Castle would be clear #1. Most/all guys drafted top 10 are not performing anywhere near his level
  • Risacher - actually quietly doing pretty well but there are too many guys ahead of him in Atlanta for him to really shine
  • Sarr - underwhelming but I guess it is hard to pass up a 7 foot teenager that wants to be a SG
  • Reed Sheppard - what a disappointment so far. Biggest bust yet, which is surprising because I thought he had a high floor/low ceiling as a 3&D guard who can run an offense without turning the ball over
  • Ron Holland - was surprised he went so high. Meh
  • Tidjane Salaun - I'm not sure if I've ever heard this name before?
  • Clingan - high impact in low minutes. In a re-draft, he'd move up
  • Dillingham - has put in a few solid games but overall meh. Playing behind too many guards in Minnesota
  • Edey - really solid so far, he would also move up in a re-draft
  • Cody Williams - bad
