A rising senior at UMass-Amherst, Eric Jachym, was caught in a crossfire in DC last week and was killed. He was an intern with a congressman from Kansas and was from central Mass, as was one of the best pitchers at UConn in the early '70's, Jim Jachym. Jim was the starting pitcher in the Huskies' 3-0 upset of Texas in the 1972 College World Series. Anyone know if they were related? Based on the age difference, Jim could have been Eric's grandfather or great uncle.
