Great turnout for FAU! It’s a shame that UConn had the game in hand and the kids all left in the second half…

GET REAL. Y’all know the student section empties out at halftime every night game, the score barely matters. This UConn team is going to keep WINNING, but the students are going to behave the same way regardless. I’m not saying I’m happy about it, it’s just the way it is.

The attendance in the student section at kickoff was tremendous for both games. We really have no reason to complain about them departing early as neither game was close by halftime. When we packed the house on a regular basis the same thing happened outside of compelling finishes. There is zero to complain about and quite a bit to praise here.

During the years leading to the Fiesta Bowl, the dog pound was mostly full during close games, especially during afternoon contests. The tide started turning during the Pasqualoni regime, when the Huskies started being lass competitive on the playing field,
There is a solution to getting the students to stay longer:
1. Play winning competative football
3. UConn Transportation should mandate that its bus drivers not leave the RENT lots until at least mid-fourth quarter. The current system is that the busses can make the return trip once filled with passengers. This COULD potentially happen in the first quarter & is a ridiculous policy.

They should not open the doors to the buses until at least the end of halftime if not later. I'm sure students who decide to make the trip can commit to that. I am curious about the number of students who drive to games. They would still want to leave early and get back to campus and that is a big problem whether they leave early or stay till the end.

No student comes to UConn looking forward to a 30 min bus trip to watch football and have to jockey to fill a bus to return to campus. It just so happens that UConn's campus is the furthest of any college in the nation from its stadium. Even assuming an improving version of UConn football, this isn't the 2003-2010 version of students. Put the stadium on campus and you'll get many more students and yes--non students to games. Students would have a reason to stay later in the stadium (they don't need to return to campus-they're already there) and non student visitors have an alternative to heading into traffic. They can enjoy the campus setting while waiting for traffic to subside. Imagine that. Spending time post- game on a beautiful New England college campus among the fall colors--or sitting in monotonous traffic in uninspiring East Hartford.

Remember, UConn pays the State to use The Rent but does not share in concession or parking revenue from its football games--or any non-football events like concerts etc. These revenues are controlled by the stadium’s managing body (currently Oak View Group) and the state of Connecticut. UConn’s only income from its football games comes from ticket sales. This insane arrangement where the university is still responsible for costs associated with playing there while not benefiting from additional revenue streams like other teams might at their own venues, limits UConn’s ability to fully capitalize on its football program’s financial potential. And that's what the BIG 12 and others see when they start digging into the details.
It's beyond time to raise the $500M (hello Pequot and Mohegan nations) and get the residents of Mansfield on our side. Let's get after it!

If you lived on a campus 25 miles away, maybe you’d want to leave early too, and on a Saturday night at that. I’m incredulous that when someone says “on campus stadium” you get people on this board that say nay.

On-campus would certainly be "less convenient" for many people - but the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience. When the product is good - nobody cares about convenience. Gampel is full and sold out for the entire season already. And probably would sell an extra 2K seats if they existed.

The students have been great so far this season. I am glad they are showing up unlike years past when they didn't even come to begin with.

Just keep winning. The crowd will be fine. A whole new generation needs to discover UConn football. A lot of damage was done over the last 12 years. We see it in P4 conferences. Abysmal programs have attendance problems. Even solid mid-level programs, like Duke, have attendance problems.
