Is there a football specific endowment or an athletics endowment?

Contributions can be directed through the Foundation for specific interests. These include the sports programs and scholarships, which are then included in the Foundation’s Endowment. Money designated for athletic scholarships are then distributed annually based on a formula from the Foundation.

If a contribution is made to a specific project, I.e. a building, the donation is distributed as the building progresses.

I'm pretty sure that at least a few football scholarships (I imagine a handful of other sports as well) are endowed. A donation can be made to the general fund or be earmarked for a specific purpose. A specific endowment would need to be substantial enough that the annual proceeds it generates (normally from very safe, low risk investments) can cover it's specific purpose

My plan for whenever I win the lottery when it's at a billion+ is to cut the university a nice check for football.

Big contributions are great, but just like with investing, fitness, weight loss, etc., it is the small things that matter. Small regular donations are the key to building a solid foundation.
