I am astonished at the level the ladies have brought themselves to in such a short time. The biggest change has been the dedication to continuous, suffocating defense. And it started before all the troops were available to spell those on the floor. Don't have a clue why it's happened, but it's thrilling to watch. Watching Nika late in yesterday's game fronting the Providence PG bringing up the ball from the CT free throw line to the PC free throw line while zigging from sideline to sideline without losing contact or fouling was amazing. She's not the only one who's shown an improved ability to disrupt the opponents. And the smart, effective hedges -- particularly from the bigs -- have disallowed the usefulness of screens over and over again. Wow!
And besides that, the offense almost always moves, the passes are usually crisp, the players know what they want to do when they catch the ball, AND THEY MAKE LAYUPS!
Over the past 10 (since Creighton) games, the team has improved -- often substantially -- in all the metrics I track:
FG% 47.1% -> 51.3%
3FG% 30.1% -> 39.9%
FT% 66.4% -> 77.7%
A/TO 1.19 -> 1.64
A/Game 17.88 -> 20.5
ORB/Game 10.6 -> 11.0
DRB/Game 26.8 -> 27.94
TRB/Game 37.4 -> 38.94
Fouls/Game 14.29 -> 13.3
TO/Game 15.0 -> 12.5
