Emmitt Smith, all-time leading rusher in NFL history and bona fide big game stud. Escambia High School in Pensacola, played at Florida, set the standard

Trent Richardson, Escambia High School and Alabama. Plenty of anticipation that Trent Richardson would become the next star RB from Pensacola. Two National Championships, Heisman finalist and first round draft pick of the Browns.

And out of no where, Alfred Morris of Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida Atlantic and 6th round draft pick puts together a historic season for RB's and absolutely bittchh slapped the Cowboys yesterday.

Highlights of Morris' season-

- Redskins all-time single season rushing record (Passing Clinton Portis, Terry Allen and John Riggins), rookie record for rushing TD's and total TD's.

- One of just four rookies in NFL history to rush for 1,600 yards in a season. He trails only Eric Dickerson (1983, 1,808) and George Rogers (1981, 1,674).

- Joined Dickerson as the only rookies in league history to rush for more than 75 yards in each of their team’s first five games.

Just more proof that if you can play football, the NFL will find you and will utilize you.

Also, more proof why using a high draft pick on a RB is very rarely the best bang for your buck in the draft. When talent of this caliber can be found in the 6th round, it's rarely wise to spend 1st round money on RB's.

And, for Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, they had three NFL players on the same team a few years ago.

Mike Johnson, OL Falcons.
George Selvie, DE Jaguars.
Alfred Morris, RB Redskins.

That's some serious talent on any HS team.

It's Shanahan. His unique cut blocking system has made stars out of numerous late round draft picks. Morris would not have the same numbers on any other NFL team.

Agree that Shanahan's system beefs up RB numbers, but Morris still had to learn the audible and pass blocking schemes to stay on the field to amass those numbers. My bigger point was that an unknown RB from a small school can make a huge impact. Look at the difference in money between Trent and Morris are being paid.

Not trying to run down Morris. He has obviously come up big for the skins. It does show how important it is to get the right player into the right system.

It's also the read option.

Why can't we run some pistol read option with McCummings?

He can't pass and is not an elusive runner, other than that Uconn could be the college version of Redskins.

Ya but I don't think a low drafted running back has this much of an NFL impact on any team but the Skins this year. There may be a diamond in the rough every once in a while, but not many of note in the 5-7th rounds in the last 15 years. The list of running backs he made millionaires is ridiculous. Portis being the only guy to have success outside of his system (but injury prone) and I think Terrell Davis may have been, but you never know because he was always a Bronco. The rest of the list is Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, Reuben Droughns and Tatum Bell. These guys all were 1,000 yard backs with Shanahan and fell off the face of the earth when out of his system.

You all realize that the Redskins (and Shanahan) utilize zone-blocking

Isn't that the really awesome blocking system GDL is trying to establish? ;>)
