Aside from the results already discussed in their own threads here (Miss St over Texas and Penn St over Tenn), quite a few other noteworthy results, e.g.:
  • The "saggy middles" of the ACC and SEC went 1-1 against each other, with the home team prevailing in each: Vanderbilt over Duke 77-73 and Georgia Tech over Georgia 52-45.
  • Rizzotti's GW squad scored a respectable road win over Villanova, 72-69.
  • South Dakota State held on against Iowa, 66-64. Not really much of an upset but still a significant road win for SDSU against a team that barely missed an at-large bid last year.
  • Rutgers lost to Virginia, 62-54, and is now 0-4 to start the year.
I think the SDSU win over Iowa was the only case of a power-5 conference team losing to a non-P5 team today — thus far. But St. John's is currently leading #22 Miami in the 3rd quarter.

Wow. If Tennessee players and fans want to feel better about themselves, they should watch film of the epic 4th-quarter collapse by St. John's against Miami. SJU got outscored 19-3 in the final 10 minutes, going 1-for-13 from the floor and 1-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Oh Plebe...
Could you please explain, just why UTenn should feel better about anuthing?
Especially the way they played.

Well everything is relative. For example, they can tell themselves that half of all teams that played today also lost. Company comforts misery.

Purdue continued there bad start by losing to Southern Illinois 64-61 to fall to 1-3 for another P5 loss to a mid-major.

Meanwhile it was not a good day for the AAC - Tulsa, SMU, Memphis and East Carolina all lost in competitive games. Tulane and Uconn being the only winners on the day.
