According to ESPN Elena will not sign an extension and is taking a year off.

I don't know if there was anything to it, but on the ESPN free agency special someone said she might have been looking at Las Vegas. I don't think Vegas could have added both for cap reasons, so once Parker decided to return that option dried up as some other ones did after players inked deals. Chicago has room but she talked her way out of there years ago forcing a trade.

Just speculation, but it seems like she wanted out of Washington, maybe because Cloud was leaving and they seemed in a downward trend. She could have been chasing the ring in search of a better contender, and those limited options didn't work out, and she was left with take the money from a bottom tier team, or take a year off and reconsider options next year.

So so few teams, a cap structure that encourages teams to only have 11 players and only spend above minimum money on 7 or 8 of them. a hand-full of free agent decisions can wipe out viable options for some players, even of EDD's status. Expansion should help that situation somewhat.

The new front office of Monumental Sports told EDD that she was no longer in their future plans. But the Mystics wanted compensation for her, so they put the core designation tag on her. The Mystics wanted that 3rd pick from Phoenix really badly but Phoenix went in another direction. Now it's obvious the Mystics botched the whole EDD situation.

Sorry, they told the multi-time all-star who led them to their only title that she's no longer in their plans? What's their plan? Lose so much they win lottery picks? Hard to think of a roster (other than Chicago cough cough) that's lost more and gained less this free agency...

Just curious -- did Delle Donne ever give anyone any indication that she'd consider joining a team as far away as Phoenix? Last I knew Chicago was too far, as she was quite attached to her family. Her family has a second home near Annapolis, presumably to spend more time with her during the season. The DMV has also embraced her -- There have been cutouts of her greeting me at the local Giant grocery stores regularly during the WNBA season, and she's all over other advertisements.

But this is the same Monument Sports that decided, since the Mystics were drawing over 10,000 not that long ago, to put them in an arena that holds, what, 3,500? a couple of years ago.

EDD has missed 11 and 13 games the past two years and only played 3 games three seasons ago. She has said on record that she wanted to play for Las Vegas but they didn't have the compensation to give the Mystics. The Monumental front office has decided that the Mystics should rebuild (the same as the brother team the Wizards). They want a new franchise player in the 2025 draft. If Bueckers is in that draft, they will target her. It will be a long rebuild if they don't land Bueckers in 2025.
