Just my two cents, but I don't see her coming to UConn, and making an instant impression. I have seen video of her high school ball, albeit as a junior. She will need to bulk up, and make the major adjustment to the college game, just like most other freshmen.I'm going to have to start calling Ekmark "The Mystery Girl". The one common theme regarding St. Mary's is that they do not keep individual stats. No wonder Ekmark is flying under the radar. I suspect she is going to arrive on campus and hit the hardwood and everyone is going to be surprised as to how good she is. I remember reading somewhere that she scored 6 threes in a game...but that is just it there is no hard record of her game stats... We know she is a coach's kid, she is a student of the game, she is a tall guard who can shoot the basketball, we know Geno recruited her and she committed early (she wants to play here). So, with that, I look forward to seeing "the mystery girl" in Husky blue and white.
cferraro04, I am guessing you don't fallow recruiting much because Courtney Ekmark is not a mystery to anyone in the college basketball world and is in no way flying under the radar. She is ranked in the top 20 of all the major recruiting sites and her hs team plays in big tournaments such as the TOC in Phoenix so she has been viewed by all. May have to come up with a diferent nickname...
I am quite aware of her rankings and her big tournament play. Here is her latest ranking #13, LINK. I was only referencing the lack of statistics regarding her play for St. Mary's... In fact, you can go to the web site for the team and each game has a box score with the other team's players box score and after it lists the other teams players it always says that St. Mary's has submitted their statistics...I find that curious that they don't submit statistics.
I was speaking tongue in cheek regarding her nickname as I certainly wasn't planning to make the "Mystery Girl" moniker stick....my reference to her flying under the radar was strictly regarding fans who are looking for stats following her games. It has been referenced many times that St. Mary's won but that there was no box score. While "Ek" might not be a mystery to anyone in the basketball world it is a mystery as to what her scoring average is this year...it is a mystery as to how many threes she scored in the last game...and it is a mystery how many assists she is averaging this year.
The team may not keep stats, but there certainly are stats for her out there thats others compiled. She is a dead eye shooter and is a true student of the game. Can't wait to see her play! It kind of reminds me of how excited I was about this years freshman, but I guess i'm always excited to see what our new girls can do.
New toy syndrome.
This Mary lady seems very popular.Do any of you remember the confusion and misunderstanding that I and another poster had which was caused by the plethora of St. Mary's teams at Nike? Well St Mary's (Stockton) now also sports a similar 12- 1 record ( same as St. Mary's Phoenix). With one of there victory's coming last Saturday against yet another one of those confounding St Mary's ( Berkeley) at Nike. Makes your brain hurt.
I heard she's still a virgin....This Mary lady seems very popular.
Good point. I was thinking she was a junior in the video. The physical look of a sophomore midway in the year? Was she still 15? I would hope that in the 2 and a half years that will transpire by the time she graduates her body will fill out some. Probably has to some degree already. Some seem to forget she won't be a freshman for nearly 2 more years.
Good point. I was thinking she was a junior in the video.
I'd be more than thrilled if Ek turned out to be another Strother. AP AA Honorable Mention twice, BE 1st team twice, BE 3rd team twice. BE Tourney MOP, BE Freshman team, 1699 points (avg double figures all 4 years), 290 3pts (37.7%), yea I'd take that.Okay, I found the video on which I based my statement. Keep in my mind that strong enough for high school does not compare to strong enough for college. Cortney reminds me of Ann Strother, who came in as a perimeter shooter. Was Ann strong enough for college as a freshman, you be the judge.
Can you elaborate? And who's comparing her to Kaleena?Nope, not a good comparison and if you are comparing her to Kaleena, you will be disappointed.
