Edwards 1st player since Maya 20pts and 20 rebounds

From the article:

"The shorthanded No. 8 UConn Huskies went home with a 72-47 win over the No. 21 Creighton Bluejays on Wednesday and Aaliyah Edwards had herself a career night in the process. The junior forward became the the first UConn player with 20 points and 20 rebounds since Maya Moore in 2010...

...Moore famously led the Huskies to a 150-4 record through her four-year career in Connecticut. That included four Final Four appearances and two National Championships. Moore -- now a star for the Minnesota Lynx -- wrapped up her college basketball career as the fourth-leading scorer in NCAA history with a total of 3,036 points..."

It's Christmas miracle! I can't wait to see Maya back in action again.

Cheryl Reeve must be over the moon.

I am not aware of any announcement by Maya that she will be returning to the Lynx. I think that the article made an unwarranted a assumption.

As far as I know, she has been devoting herself fully to her personal project of getting her now-husband released from prison, and then writing a book about that journey.

Did I miss some update about this?

It's national media articles like this that will help get Aaliyah the AA votes/recognition she deserves. Her double digit scoring and rebounding has been essential as Azzi is on the bench, but I suspect that her scoring will return to the mid-teen area when gets back. Aaliyah's improvement from last year has been remarkable ! The way she and many others are playing looks like they are hoping to get Dorka that NC she said (in the Creighton post game interview) she wants. (That would be a nice gift to both seniors, or however you refer to players with no more eligibility-DJ & LLS)

I am just so happy for Aaliyah. From last season, getting no attention and a lot of criticism to now, a new season and a new mindset. Aaliyah deserves all of the praise and awards that are coming her way. I am hoping that she gets that All American honor this season. She is playing some great basketball. Showing so much growth in her game and her leadership. Super happy for Aaliyah.

I've heard some announcers and sports guru's refer to them as Super Seniors.

No, Joe, you didn't. The post was just me being a "wise acre" by taking a sarcastic  shot at the writer of the article for not checking and double checking the validity of her source(s). No other reference was intended. Happy New Year to you and yours, Joe.

Stats based on games between 2000-01 and 2021-22.

There were 3 games of 20+ rebounds in a game. In all 3 instances that player also scored 20+ points in the same game.
  • Swin Cash in 2000-01 had 20 & 20
  • Tina Charles in 2009-10 had 25 & 21
  • Maya Moore in 2009-10 had 38 & 20
There were 4 games of 19 rebounds in a game. In 1 of 4 instances that player also scored 20+ points in the same game.
  • Tina Charles in 2008-09 had 25 & 19
There were 5 games of 18 rebounds in a game. In 2 of 5 instances that player also scored 20+ points in the same game.
  • Tina Charles in 2008-09 had 29 & 18
  • Step Dolson in 2011-12 had 22 & 18
So over previous 22 seasons only 12 instances covering 8090 player games where a player had 18+ rebounds, off which only 6 instances that player also scored 20+ points in the same game.

Against Creighton we had two in the same game. Aaliyah Edwards had 23 & 20 and Dorka Juhasz had 22 & 18.
