So, today I happened to be in New York City for the day, coming back from Lake Placid home to Tennessee. I’m wearing one of my Husky hats. I thought that I would catch the Yankees-Phillies game at Yankee Stadium. After leaving the game, I jumped on the subway to head back to my daughter‘s place. At the next stop, a group of five guys gets on - three of them are over 6’6” tall, the others 5’10 to 6 foot. After a few minutes. I noticed one of taller guys is wearing a Husky hat. One of the two shorter guys sees me with my hat and points to the other guy with the hat and says (pointing to the tall guy wearing the Huskies hat) “He won national championship with the Huskies in 2006“. I replied “no he didn’t - not in 2006“, knowing that they did not win the national championship that year. He looks at the tall guy, and says “what year was that? 2004?” He looks back at me and says “That’s Ed Nelson!“. We shook hands and visited for a couple minutes, and as we were pulling into my stop, I tried to get a picture, but, wasn’t quick enough with my phone. They were in the area to go to tomorrow’s UConn Legends golf tournament in Greenwich. He had a really great spirit about him, and was very congenial and nice to me.
