East Carolina head coach Joe Dooley has filled out his staff with another impressive hire.
Steve Roccaforte, previously the associate head coach at Virginia Tech under head coach Buzz Williams, has agreed to join ECU's coaching staff as an assistant coach, multiple sources tell Hoist The Colours. The 53-year-old Roccaforte joins a group of coaches that already includes new associate head coach Raphael Chillious, who served in the same capacity at Washington and most recently at UConn, and Ken Potosnak, the lone assistant coaching holdover from Jeff Lebo's staff.
The exact reason behind Roccaforte's departure from Virginia Tech is unknown. Elevated to the associate head coach position last offseason, Roccaforte has played a major role in the Hokies' success since joining Williams' staff in 2014. Virginia Tech landed a Top 20 recruiting class nationally in 2017 and followed that up with another Top 50 class for 2018. The Hokies have made the NCAA tournament each of the last two seasons.
