They are coming in riding high with a lot of swagger, top 5 D and all that but their schedule was not that impressive. They can win shooting pathetically from 3. Yes they have won a lot on the road which is a credit, but this Tuesday they will host an amped up Marquette team coming off a home loss (yes!) with only 2 days to recover for us.

They are full of experienced players, transfers, trash talkers, but I dislike them and their coach and I want Pitino and his team to look glum after the game. It’s not make or break but I see this as a game of wills, who will fight for it more and coach Hurley is going to be quite jacked up for this.

I saw a decent amount of their game against PC yesterday. St John's can't score effectively or efficiently in a half court game. Once PC stopped turning the ball over they were able to erase a 19 point deficit.

If we exceed 20 turnovers as we did last night, we won't end up with the same result that we had against Marquette. We will need to protect the ball. If we do, I like our chances a lot.

Their interior defense is elite, but perimeter defense isn't as strong as their overcommitting can lead to open shots. On offense, think of Houston without the ability to make perimeter shots -- tons of second chance shots.

In summary, they are most suspectible against perimeter-driven teams, so UConn's strong shooting and volume from the perimeter will be an advantage. I really like our chances.

Richmond is a known Husky killer. Let him get his and focus on slowing down Luis Jr and Ejiofor.

The concern here is that we are going to see a replay of Telfort in the Butler game. Give the ball to Richmond and have him back in whoever is playing him for a 4 foot turnaround or a hard drive to the basket and if our big has to rotate over, and easy offensive rebound for Ejiofor. The ability of St. John's to penetrate and back people down is what worries me. AK is gonna have to defend Richmond, not foul, and, in turn, UConn has to make Richmond defend. He is not a good 3 point shooter and typically is a lazy defender.

Live ball turnovers and rebounding. I think this may be a Reed game. S John's lives on put backs, transition points and pressing. Make this a half court game and they struggle.

One thing with St. Johns, they go 9-10 deep, but all of their scoring comes from their starters. They really struggle to score from the bench....UConn's bench needs to give them a jolt and win the battle of the benches convincingly...

As a SJU fan this is what I will say about this SJU team. They don’t pass the eye test. Not in the least. Watch a game and you won’t really see where the stats come from. Box score at the end of the game has 7-9 guys with double digits amongst other lofty numbers. Somebody said “give Kadary his”. You can’t. Luis, Deivon or Ejiofor can get you badly in the right game. 3-pt shooting has sucked but believe it or not SJU isn’t as bad as it has shown this season. Pitino will attest. We have been poor there though and 3-pt defense has only been decent.

Defense is a lot better than it seems on TV overall though. It’s generally stifling for most teams. Athleticism a lot better as well. Even as a SJU fan I can’t believe where we are without seemingly elite offense etc. we are far from unstoppable, yet have been in solid command at most times.

That said, we should only have 2 losses the entire season thus far as Baylor was a clock/ref mistake and should be only 4 points from undefeated. Again, SJU doesn’t always pass the eye test. Team is big, fast, extremely deep and Pitino has them playing nasty defense. Looking forward to this week with some better Big East teams. See a bit closer where we stand.

They really only go 9-10 deep during blow outs.

In the Providence win, only six players played 6+ minutes. In the Xavier game, only six played 8+ minutes. Georgetown win, only the started played 11+.

They have been down some big numbers in games and come back. Also many of their wins are very close and could have gone either way,

Agreed. Not a great bench. UConn needs to put pressure on them to defend without fouling and hit the glass hard.
