That's more than a few LB's I saw lift. It amazes me something, that is completely in the control of the player, is not taken seriously by some players.

If you are not a weight room kind of guy scouts take notice.

Yep. That's the behind the numbers meaning of the bench press drill.

Can't be faked or trained for in 6 weeks.

High reps for a position are indicative of a player who has spent many hours in the weight room.

I'm still pissed that Griffin didn't get an invite, rutgers te jefferson had a grand total of 3 reps on the bench press, he probably claimed an injury. FSU sent like 15 guys to the combine, ryan should have went.

Pretty sure the injury he "claimed" was a torn pec. Had to leave the combine and isn't sure if he'll be able to work out at his pro day. Too bad, he's an intriguing prospect.

Griffin will get his chance to put up big numbers at UConn's Pro Day. After the way our guys turned heads this week (DBs have a few drills tomorrow), we'll get a good crowd at Pro Day.

Ryan Griffin's absence from the Combine was a joke. Even before the injury to DC Jefferson of Rutgers while lifting, his inclusion in lieu of Ryan was puzzling. Here's a comparison of their dual career stats.

Size: Ryan: 6'6" 247---DC 6'6" 250 (before training for Combine/ProDay)
Games: Ryan 48-----DC 46
Total Yards: Ryan 1500---DC 580
Yards per Reception: Ryan 12.9----DC 11.9
TD's: Ryan 10----DC 2

Tough to explain that. Did UConn fail to adequately promote him to the League? Based on what I've witnessed, we have dropped the ball on promoting several of our players onto a grander stage. Could it have been pure politics? In any event, Ryan is working hard and will prove his worth on ProDay March 27th. There should be lots of scouts coming to look at several of our players. Good luck to them all.

I think it has a lot to do with the grading process that goes on each December. But I could be wrong. Maybe he just didn't grade out well.

A lot of really good players get left out. some even get drafted high. The Patriots Sebastian Vollmer was a 2nd round pick and now an All-Pro.

Second run was an unofficial 4.35! He FLEW! Good UConn mentions when he was lining up as well.

22 reps and a 4.35 40 is insane! NFL people are going to start pumping up our training program big time with our guys being top performers in both speed and strength!

Gratz has Tyvon Branch written all over him. UConn players showing out at this combine it seems. Haven't been able to watch much of it this year.

I got pretty annoyed with NFL network going to commercial or to their other desk right when it was Gratz's time to run. I wish they would take the time to talk about each prospect while they're running the first time and then use the second time around to go off and discuss the one or two they want to focus on. At the very least if you skip over a guy's first run at least show the second.

Deion and the others just gushed about Gratz (for a couple seconds, but still). Said there is significant buzz about him at the combine, and that he has really looked good today. Yet another no name UConn player that is making waves at the combine. Kudos Dwayne.

ETA: Gratz and Tyrann Mathieu are the two most fluid DBs I've seen today.

4.35 at his size guarantees him a spot in the 4th round. Based on how he compares to branch, he could rise up the boards very quick

Again, he has been very fluid as well, shown good ball skills, and is strong. I say 3rd round is a strong possibility at this point for him.

Could go higher than that...lot's of big receivers in the NFL with few big cornerbacks that can cover. Great day for him!

I think the Tyvon Branch comparisons are fitting. He's a really physical player, definitely not pure finesse corner. With his physicality and the speed, he should be in demand even more now.

Unless DC blocks like a tackle these stats should not get you in over Ryan given fact that no one has been a worse passing team than Uconn the last 2 years in a BCS conference (and just about all FBS). When it comes to last few guys in, sure there are some "politics".

Gratz has shown the dedication between the end of the season and the combine that scouts love.

He finished the season as a 5th-UDFA and now is guaranteed a draft spot, probably no later than the 4th-5th.

Kudos to him to taking advantage of the opportunity.

Jayson Braddock @JaysonBraddock (NFL Media Scout/NFL Writer) - DBs are always the most fun for me to watch at the combine. Dwayne Gratz had some of the most fluid footwork, reminded me of Brandon Harris

Scott Smith @XAMSports
“@InsideNFLMedia: Mike Mayock on Dwayne Gratz: There is a buzz about him. He is moving up the draft boards.” and a great #characterguy

"It's been a while since we featured a Husky on DC, but after watching him go absolutely HAM on the NFL Combine last week we had to give UConn's Dwayne Gratz some love (and UConn fans need something to read about it while the NCAA bans them from March Madness for being too successful)."
