Kind of lost in the Courant article about Edsall giving up $150,000 to retain and promote Dunn is this:

"Dunn had other job opportunities this offseason, sources said. He could have landed a Power Five job.

Now, if all goes well, he could be UConn’s next coach.

There’s no coach-in-waiting language in Dunn’s contract but several sources say Edsall’s vision includes the following: coach a few more years, maybe three, get the program headed in the right direction and hand it over to Dunn."

Wow, Edsall really does seem to have a five year plan. The article has a bunch more news nuggets and really highlights how much Randy cares about the program but for this thread, do we really have a coach in waiting?

He's definitely waiting. Not sure if it's for the UConn job though.

Not sure if the plan will eventually come to fruition and of course it's dependent on the team winning, but it's nice to see that the foundation of the program Randy's building for the long term is based on the offensive side of the ball with a young guy who clearly understands the type of offense you have to run in order to win.

Let's see what he does with a new QB before we start crowning him head coach. If he can produce the same numbers out of whoever succeeds Pindell then I'll buy in

We never hire an offensive guy for head coach. It has been all DCs.

I think Dunn is a very intelligent guy and is going to be successful.

Still, you have to chuckle in thinking that we're planning a HC in waiting when we've been 4-20 in the last two years. It's not like we're exactly trying to preserve the Bowden era at FSU or something lol

Didn't realize Dunn is 35. It would be neat if Randy could fix the program, and hand it off to a young, offensive mind.

I was impressed with Dunn's offense and doing everything we can do to keep him here is a smart move. Too bad this wasn't done with Moorhead.
