I actually found the Tubbs interview refreshing. He was careful to point out that conference realignment was ongoing. While he felt that the Bearcats would be in a new conference within 2 years, he didn't belabor the point. He did a great pr job to put his institution in the best possible light.
The behind the scenes information on his hiring was compelling. Cinci's A.D. knew Tubbs from his days as the asst. A.D. at Auburn. As such, he knew that Tubb's wife was from the Cincinnati area. He placed the call to inquire if Tubbs would consider the Bearcats' coaching vacancy (fully expecting to be denied). Tubbs's response was "Let me talk to my wife & I'll call you right back." The whole transaction was done via phone call.
On recruiting: First, he hoped to have his staff finalized withing the next 2 weeks. Then he spoke about drawing a circle of 100 mile radius around the campus and attacking it as his core recruiting area because of Ohio's rich recruiting talent. He did say that he would still recruit Georgia, Florida & Texas, but that circle would provide the bulk of his recruiting expenditure.
My thoughts as the interview went on was that Tubbs displayed an incredible ease of composure fielding questions. His coaching record stands for all to see, but that interview gave incite about the man himself.
