But looked pretty bad doing so. have to wonder if Gray will have much left in the tank for the NCAA's because she really carries them. Meanwhile Williams, once thought of as practically KLM's equal, seems not to be much of a force down low any more.

Horrible clock decision making by Hatchell squad in last 2 minutes let Duke cruise in to a win that was far from gauranteed.

A win is a win is a win. First win in Chapel Hill since 2007.

Dunno about not being a force anymore. 19 points per game the previous two games... 57% shooting..... She struggled in the second half today.... but.. I'd still take her over any other freshman in the country. But of course I am a bit biased.

It was a good game, but very physical I thought!

I watched part of the first half and it looked like Duke was in firm control. NC must have made a game of it in the 2nd stanza

Definitely a blood rival. Peters got bloodied up by a Shegog elbow in the first half.... got about 20 stitches... and came back in the second half. The ACC will be a safer place once Shegog graduates. Girls showed some grit and toughness out there.... There is a chance we will see them again in Greensboro next Saturday. I would love that.

You know, tirad, your comment got me thinking. Wouldn't you agree that it used to be where women's basketball used to be more about finesse? I think in the last four-five years it has gone away from that. I think it has become way too physical. The scores probably overall are lower. I mean, I've talked to a number of coaches from all over the country and most of them feel the game has become much rougher on the inside.

Personally, I'm looking forward to a return of finesse.

Ain't gonna happen. The women are treading down the same path the men have taken.

I agree Justin and to date UCONN at its best has been a finesse team.

LOL - I should have put quotes around my quote... how quickly people forget! :)

And msf, there was nothing finesse-ful about TASS or Bam Bam or Shea or Kara... :)

I agree.. the women's game is much too physical for my tastes... in the ACC... UNC and GaTech are the biggest culprits... though Maryland isnt far behind. On TV it looks bad enough.... but in person... wow....... its ROUGH inside the paint in the women's game..... I used to be shocked, and get upset over all the non calls... but Ive gotten somewhat used to it now.

Im sure Peters would agree with me that the ACC will be a safer place when Shegog graduates... glad that she's a senior.

Give her a break, after a very emotional contest with Miami.

Right she definitely struggled in the second half, when I was watching. Seemed like all her shots were blocked.

She sure left a puddle of blood out there. Didn't watch the second half so I'm surprised to hear she was back in the game. Must be some tough kid.

I'd like to see finess rewarded more. I think physical play, up to a point, is fine. But when substantial holding and grabbing do not get called, it is not basketball. Physical play tends to equalize teams with different levels of talent. I can think of 4 teams that we currently play or used to play that routinely play(ed) very physical defense to an excess. If a coach has her/his kids reaching and hacking routinely based on the premise that we'll foul on every possession because the refs won't call all of them, that is just bullyball and not basketball. It is both wrong and unwatchable as a sport.

I think what we'd like to see is freedom of movement which is what makes basketball such a wonderful sport to watch. Jay Bilas has fequently said that MCBB is too physical as well, and in fact is more physical than the NBA. Jay thinks there is more freedom of movement in the NBA and would like MCBB officials to spend time watching NBA games. Let's invite WCBB and WNBA officials to that viewing party as I don't think the same college vs pro distinction exists in the women's game. WNBA games are also too physical.

Thats probably the worst Ive seen EW play all year.... the second half of the game. She played great the first half though. She's a smart young lady, and she will learn from her mistakes. Im sure if we meet up again with UNC on Saturday.... she will have a much better game.

I too was surprised to see her back in the game.... Im not sure we win if she didnt return. But yeah.... she is tough as nails. Shegog threw her down to the floor a few more times in the second half.... but Peters jumped back up and kept on battling.
