Duke and UConn men's basketball postgame press conferences Elite Eight

Worth it if you want to watch something on the game now. I changed the channel to 10 different sports stations after the game and finally found this since no other station was talking about the game. CBS went right to 60 Minutes and let Barkley off the hook! Lol

Post game on the CBS set with Adam Zucker, Jon Rothstein, Wally Szczerbiak and Chris Walker. Never knew Zucker is a Duke hater. He just went up in stature in my book!

UConn:

Dan really does do a great job of being humble, giving credit to the other team and highlighting the most important aspects of what led to our amazing tournaround.

Great job, coach... you are becoming a legend!

WE are so incredibly lucky to be fans of this school, this group of guys, and this coach and his staff.

Thank you for once again for doing an amazing job as the coach of our UConn Huskies!!!!!!

Love seeing Andrea Hurley hug all the players. It’s a true family and it came out when Dan Hurley turned down the Lakers how much she loves the players. My son played 4 years of d1 and don’t think anyone ever met the coach’s wife.

We were at the game. At halftime, I wondered why we'd spent all that money on 4 tickets. By the end of the game, I was so glad we did.

The first half was awful. Our offense was Tarris and nothing else. Our defense continuously leaving someone wide open for a 3, which of course Duke made. It was demoralizing.

They came out much better in the 2nd half and the refs were finally calling fouls on Duke. We forced more TOs, played more aggressively on offense and defense, and started chipping at the lead. But we still couldn't get any closer than 7 until the last few minutes. I thought those missed FTs by Tarris, Solo and Silas would spell doom for us. With only 10 seconds left, who could've imagined what would happen, but Braylon Mullins happened.

There were definitely more Duke fans in the crowd, but the Husky faithful were loud. Lots of UConn cheers, yelling"defense", and the roar was deafening when Braylon hit that shot. I almost felt bad for the Duke fans........almost, but not quite.

As happy as I am for the win and that it came against Duke, viewing Cameron’s courage to come out for the post game interview was admirable. The Boozers are a family of class. Good on their parents.
On the other hand you have Jon Scheyer. No class. If he was Dan Hurley, Izzo, and lots of others he would have taken responsibility for the loss.

He sounds very insecure. Spoke like a politician. When asked if he'd do anything different at the end of the game he threw the team under the bus by dodging the question and saying "we have to make plays".

One reporter asked if he thought about calling timeout and he avoided answering and mealy mouthed so.etbi g like "of course there's lots of things that go through your head but it comes down to you have to make plays".

Duke’s postgame presser was disappointing. Coach Scheyer didn’t acknowledge UConn at all no mention of Reed’s toughness, no credit for Demary’s clutch threes, and nothing about the defensive adjustment in the second half. That says a lot.
When you lean on five-star talent and come up short, you’ve got to own it and give the opponent their due. Instead, there was silence. That’s poor sportsmanship, plain and simple.
Coach K set a much higher standard. Scheyer was handed the keys to a powerhouse brand, he needs to act like it.

Absolutely positively!!!

I agree. Hurley always acknowledges the opposing team’s coach and top players following every loss. I have never seen a presser where he has not.

It was a fairly well officiated game, especially in the 2nd half. It’s clear that Hurley builds teams for how games are officiated in the non conference. It kind of makes sense why he loses his mind at Big East refs so often.

Yeah i saw some things in that interview that seems to explain a lot. "I dont have the words. I dont have the words" Yeah well you also dont have the answers during tight games under the big lights. You always have the answer. You always have the words and you take accountability when things dont work out. Its that simple. How can a kid have confidence if his coach in any way seems unsure.

I mean, to be fair, that is an absolutely gut-wrenching loss for that team. I think, more than anything, they were all shell-shocked. Not even sure how Boozer came out to talk, he looked on the verge of tears the entire time, and probably had been crying before that, and I DO NOT disrespectfully mean that. That's probably one of the toughest, craziest ways to lose a game, and I think 9/10 in that situation (if not 95/100) the opposing team doesn't even get a shot to win, and if they do, at least 8/10 they don't hit it. On the other side of things, as a UConn fan, it's incredible they even had a chance to win it. Before the inbounds, in that second before the pass, I assumed Duke would inbound and get fouled and stretch the lead to 4, that's it. My mind is completely blown. UConn has had some game winners over the years, like 98 versus Washington. I think this one is now at the top.

Man what a game. Our guys looked severely mismatched and Scheyer was schooling Danny. Bad look after how much Danny talks about wanting Duke. The team responds by mounting the most improbable comeback in tournament history. The genius of Hurley put on full display while Scheyer looks like an idiot lol

I get it, it was a brutal, draining loss. But he’s the head coach. Emotions or not, he sets the standard. He has to be a positive influence on his players. That respect matters especially in moments like that and it didn’t show.

He wasn’t schooled lol. Difference was hitting 1/18 threes (Malachi only hit it too) and free throw disparity. Most of the looks were wide open too. Definitely were some lapses early but the chances of Ball, Mullins, Karaban not hitting a 3 basically the entire game are lower than me getting struck by lightning.

Other than that it was a pretty even game. I kept saying that if they just shot below average they would be winning this game, turns out I was right

Ya, in that sense, it was disappointing. Boozer showed more poise.

1. Do we really need young men to be forced to answer stupid questions after a loss like this? I know it increases the value of the contract and is meant to maximize publicity, but it’s hard to watch a young man who plays his heart out (as Boozer did with little help past halftime from any other Duke player or coach) have to deal with that publicly.

2. Scheyer is acting like a nepo baby who has his job because of who he is rather than what he accomplished. Yes, I get you’re broken hearted also, but you’re an adult getting paid huge money to be ready for these situations. You can’t mumble a lukewarm congratulations to the other team? You can’t blame yourself for the loss, whether you think it was your fault or not, to try to take some of the load off your players there? Instead, he’s caught like a deer in the headlights. (Which, in fairness, is how he coached the second half.)
