From Amore, something to effect of, "Coach told me if he scores again I'm subbing you out. He wasn't going to score again." And he didn't.
An underappreciated aspect of our comeback

Great quote and thread. Jones did absolutely nothing the last 10 minutes of the game.

Yeah should have mentioned he was talking about Jones, who's only one of the best players we faced all year

defense by drummond and the entire team down the stretch was crucial. it seemed by the end of the 2nd half there we really be came familar with their sets (WVU seemed to run the same ones over and over again) and did a good job getting over screens and switching.

I thought he did a decent job defending a couple of those second-half fadeaways that Jones hit. I was willing to live with those (and the 3's) since they kept him off the boards and didn't force any help D to come. Sometimes guys make shots.

I think this team doesn't quite realize when they are not playing intense defense. The two WV games - the first one I was there for - played almost the same way, and when UConn really dug in, WV couldn't handle it. They have had several other of the same sort of games. They look pretty good when they get in the other team's shorts.

Perhaps the crowd can use flash cards, Forrest Gump style. DEFEND, REBOUND, RUN SOMETHING. SHOOT, JEREMY, SHOOT.

It would make it a lot easier for JC. He's probably tired of saying the same things game after game.

Lmao. Yeah, it was night and day down the stretch. We were getting straightup murdered by Jones and cadre for most of the second half. We shut that off, and Drummond helped in a big way. (To be fair to Boneyard bette noire Doug Gottleib, he pointed out during the post-grame wrap-up just how physical and effective AD was in guarding Jones late in the game.) Foul trouble helped, too - which is something we need to keep actively exploiting against good teams. On offense, our guard penetration was sick, I thought, too, in the second half. Now, Lamb went silent during that same stretch as did our bigs on offense, but it worked today. I worry that Boat penetrates too deep sometimes instead of dishing or lobbing (and keeping the big guys engaged), but if we can balance that a little more we're getting right toward the right recipe for this team to be successful.

Biggest direct result of JC's absence imo (and there are many) is that Drummond did not get enough of those moments for almost two months at a critical point in the season. As we know, JC tends to coach along an arc that is designed for the team (and hopefully each of its players) to peak at the right time (i.e., March). He breaks them down and then builds them up. Drummond missed too much of the "break them down" part, and he really, really could have used it.

Gonna see lots of lobs to Drummond tomorrow against Cuse's zone... Cuse hasn't really been able to handle him moving along the baseline and catching the lobs in either of the games. Probably because Melo can't jump, and the fact that Drummond is obviously a total freak so you can throw it anywhere... Lots of that, and lots of Lamb moving up from the baseline to the foul line is what I'd like to see... Here's to hoping Scoop doesn't go 10 for 10 a-la game 1 and Joseph doesn't go off a-la game 2... Avoid anything bizarre like that, let Waiters think he's MJ and take stupid selfish shots and U has a good chance...

agreed! also let AD get deep in the post and feed him the ball. he was unstoppable for stretches against cuse especially after the melo block. also get the ball to scoe at the foul line against the zone and if hes on cuse will have a lot of trouble like they did in game two.

WV drove to the hoop like everyone else has done. Will we see a change in future games??

Drummond showed just how dominant of a defensive player he can be down the stretch. He's so athletic that he was able to play out on the perimeter and still get back into position to help under the basket. I really hope he comes back because I want to see what he can do with a full off-season of work.

Just watched the DVR. AD noticeably playing harder on Jones. Particularly on the fall away in the lane and the late 3 attempt. Impressive to see, quite frankly.

Andre looked shell-shocked for most of the game. Jones just killed him for 3/4ths of the game, beating him down the court, boxing him out. AD looked like he had no clue. JC did take him out and left him out for quite some time in the middle of the second half.....just about the first time I remember that happening. I was glad to see it because I thought Andre was really hurting the team.

BUT, down the stretch, he looked very different...no goofy smiles, no spacing out. He was focused on his man and stayed on him every second. He made Jones give the ball up a number of times on the perimeter. Very big contribution down the stretch. JC said that he thought Andre grew up some today. I think (and really hope) that he's right.

Gottlieb did a nice job of highlighting Drummond's denial of Jones during the postgame show. He wouldn't allow himself to be screened and he stayed attached to Jones at all times.

LOL! You might have something there. If this team could ever learn to defend, run their sets and rebound with the same intensity throughout most of the game like they do when they are in desperation mode, they could string together 9 more Ws and cut down a pair of nets.
