it's time to move on

Bazz & Boat & Calhoun become Smith & George / Kemba & Bazz
Giffey becomes Dove / Giffey
Daniels becomes Burrell / Scoe
Tyler becomes Sellers / Alex (what the hell, he becomes Troy Murphy)

old Jimmy becomes young Jimmy, maybe we press all day

I got your back boys, we are UConn

this program has brought me too much joy for me to turn my back on them now

I like your enthusiasm, but unless the program can add a couple ready to play Bigs, our sites should be set on the 2013/14 season. Don't get me wrong, I'll continue to root for our Huskies regardless to who puts on the uniform and how many games they win or lose. It's just getting to the point where they are going to be grossly undermanned at the 4 & 5. You can get away with a 3-G set and win in the BE, but it's awfully hard to win with 4 small players and a big talent void in the post.

As it stands now even if they were to go with some combination of guards and wings manning the 1-4, are you really going to get a full 40 minutes from Olander and Wolf game after game? With Roscoe playing a lot of 4 and the program hopefully adding at least one post player capable of coming in and playing at least 10 minutes right away, I thought they might be able to compete most nights, but now it's getting scary. I hope JC can pull a couple rabbits out of his recruiting hat. Even with 80 minutes of PT at the 4 & 5 up for grabs to wave in front of the remaining front court recruits, the NCAA tourney ban and JC's uncertainty seem to be hard to overcome.

I wonder if Calhoun will go back to his roots and strategize the way he did 20 years ago, turning a perceived weakness (lack of size) into a strength (tenacious press/fast tempo).

I happened to watch part of the Duke-UConn game from the 94-95 season on youtube, and it was amazing how different that team looked than the type of lineups we've been utilizing the last 5-6 years (with 2 true big men and a third guy with limited perimeter abilities). But next year we won't have a choice. I could see that team having a similar lineup to that 94-95 team, if JC isn't too stubborn.

Ollie and Sheffer -- Bazz and Boat (skill-wise should be sufficient, but what helped make the press effective was the size of our guards, something Boat and Bazz seriously lack -- Ollie and Sheffer were 6'2 and 6'5; Boat and Bazz are 5'11 in high heels)
Allen -- Daniels (no comparison, resume-wise, but Daniels is reputedly a good shooter who can also handle the ball; haven't seen it yet, but maybe)
Marshall -- Giffey (yes, Donny Marshall was our small forward, and he could break the press and shoot from the outside, like Giff; can Giff rebound like Donny though?)
Knight -- Olander (probably the most apt comparison, though Knight was an inch or two taller, they had similar shooting/passing skills)

Donny Marshall could shoot? I don't recall that.
