I'm as close to Pollyanna as you're going to find on this board. I love the staff, and I love all the players, and I still think it's possible to win it all

But they have to learn to RESPECT THEIR OPPONENT, because when they play like they did today, they could lose to a 15 seed on opening day. Nobody wants to be that guy

C'mon Huskies, get mad, I'll be there for you Thursday night, +3.

Up to 9 games left, play hard, play with fire, that's all I ask

PS: Start Ross

I'm of mind that Hurley has too much confidence in his shooters late in games. With Mullins at 0-9 then making one, I could see Hurley maybe thinking, "OK, he's fixed that." But Mullins did not.

It would've been a better idea to just say, "If you guys don't get this inside to Tarris, you're walking home."

A gambler on a losing streak always believes that the next roll of the dice is going to be the start of a winning streak.

Hurley has the same gamblers mentality when it comes to his shooters. He believes that the more shots you miss simply means to keep shooting and it will all even out.

There’s a reason that these shooters are missing and it’s not correctable by the law of averages. It’s because they’re taking too many shots that they can’t make, except at a very low percentage. Just because Hawkins could curl around a screen and hit a 24 foot three pointer with someone in his face doesn’t mean that every good shooter can make that same shot.

Have someone do the analytics. What’s their percentage from more than 2 feet beyond the 3 point line? What’s their percentage when they’re coming off a curl going around a screen? What’s their percentage they’re not coming off of curl and are receiving a pass while already in shooting position?

There is no “reverting to the mean” and never will be when a shooter has demonstrated over the course of a season that they can’t make a particular three point shot. Do your analytics and give them shots that they’re capable of making.

Good message. I support every word.
Especially the last 2

I remember seeing a post way earlier on about how Nate Oats makes Alabama’s play-style too robotic on offense and I’m worried that’s what’s playing here.

Overly clean shot taking, will only really attempt the perfect, open shot, plays just stall when the set breaks down. The lack of improvisation really hinders us.

On another note, we’ve really struggled to put away booty tier opponents since Game 1 with New Haven. UMass Lowell was the only buy game I remember where I wasn’t frustrated.

.-.
I have NEVER been on board to bench Solo but I really wouldn’t mind at this point starting Ross. Solo genuinely gives nothing other than shooting, and if he isn’t shooting well than…Solo in a 6th man role could be his best utilization.

I’m with you. I don’t know that this is the time and I’ve found Solo valuable…but at this point him being instant offense and playing perhaps more freely off the bench could help.

Ross is a great role guy, and this could be a good role for him, but I also don’t want to over-extend him. I don’t know how much he can give aside from energy and an occasional bucket. Solo can drop 25, it just hasn’t happened enough.

This has nothing to do about respecting the opponent.

Effort has everything to do with respecting an opponent. As does our wide range of results, makes 1000% sense actually. It's all about the want

You don't think they wanted to win the BE or a 1 afer a week off? lol. This place. Ah, this place.

You don't think there's a difference in effort? Seriously, you actually think that doesn't happen in sports? Too funny
Are you trying to say this isn't a game they could get up for? Then what will be?!?!?!!? This was the most disappointing loss in UConn regular season history. I can't think of a worse loss. Let me know if you can.

I dont think there is any evidence of not giving effort, every team gives effort. If we make half our 3s and win did we give effort then, if there was no effort then why did we hit our fts.

It was a lack of situational awareness, shoot less 3s and pass Reed the ball, it was like a football team being too pass happy and abandoning the run. Work smarter not harder, relying on 3s there's effort in that but it's not smart.

Marquette not booty tier
This. They’re a young team whose record does not reflect how well they’ve played recently. I never thought that this was going to be an easy game.

Then again, these are also the things fans tell themselves when a season is slipping away. Nobody here would be giving Florida or Duke the benefit of the doubt if they’d lost that game.

I agree. Nobody wants to lose. Yet not every team gives max effort every night. Maybe effort isn't the right word- "fire" is better. Im a musician and I always want to sound good but I play my best when I'm on a bill with another great band and to a packed, energetic house. I often play like crap at lesser shows, despite hating the feeling of not playing well.

if we look at our best games this season, with the exception of Xavier, all of them have been against the best teams on our schedule. I do agree with @RuffRuff that this game is definitely one they had enough fuel for. The stakes were high enough and they should have come out hot, but they were still playing Marquette.

It's about mental preparation and awareness, which leads to the mistakes you're talking about.

It happens a lot in sports, teams are flat sometimes. Harder to understand why, easier to observe

If I'm correct, they shouldn't be flat in tournament play. Doesn’t mean they'll win, their opponent will have a say, but we shouldn't look lifeless

What are you talking about?
Guy is questioning the "effort" - in a game we had to have, with a week off. I'm not playing the effort game. Before the game, felt it was a strong litmus test to what this team is, as a real contender wins that one.
