At least not unless the source has seen the player more than one or two times. Sometimes a recruit is having an off day, or feeling it from 3 when they're not typically a great shooter. So when a basketball writer sits down and watches a recruit play for 5 minutes and form their opinion of the kid based off of that, that's how you get ridiculous ideas like "Daniel Hamilton is a chucker" during a season when he averaged 5 assists per game. He might be our 2nd best passer right now.

That Hamilton scouting report came from Goodman, who's an asshat. I remember after Hamilton committed Jerry Meyer was talking about how good a passer he is.

Actually he is our best passer.

I agree based on the sample size we've seen.

I should qualify that before people think it's a slight on Boat. Boat is a decent passer. There is no doubt in my mind Boat will lead the team in assists this year. They will come off drive and kicks, lobs and dribble breakdowns where he feeds frontline. All necessary, all excellent. It's why the ball is in his hands.

Hamilton from that small sample size shows a natural aptitude for making passes most players don't see. with him being so solid with the ball and such a gifted passer it will be a nice luxury for when we need buckets and teams are double teaming Boat. Especially after DHam gets a few games under his belt. Under 10 on shot clock Hamilton will be second option to Boat for having to make something happen as the season progresses.

Goodman isn't the only one who slapped DHam with the gunner label, Biancardi, Borzello, and DeCourcy did the same as well. There was plenty of West Coast people that watched him at Bosco who said the way he was playing in AAU wasn't really his game tho, and I think the fact that he averaged 7 assists his junior year kinda spoke truth to that.

No matter who's the better passer it's really a nice option to have a 6'7" guy who can rebound, handle and create. Think about our last 2 NC teams and let me know who that was on those teams?

No slight on those teams but really this is a great thing for Boat in his transition to being THE PG. If he had to do this without some guys who could also handle and pass he'd have a much tougher time. Sam Jr also can pass the ball!

I've continued watching old games while on the treadmill and have watched many games from the 04-05 season (just watched the loss to UNC that year). It was painful to watch how UNC's defense turned our team over when we only had Marcus Williams and Antonio Kellogg. Marcus was coming into his own in many ways at that point of the year, but UNC was able to turn them both over a lot and pulled away at the end. The fatal flaw on that team was quite apparent. Kellogg was thrown into a spot he was no where near ready for after AJ was out due to the AVM. (Also, this was right at the point where Rashad went out with the infection. It was still a great battle on the front lines).

The point is that Boat will absolutely need ballhandling help and I hope that Rodney has a strong handle and good decision-making when we face pressure. SamJr was strong dribbling the length of the floor and finishing with his left hand in a lot of traffic. But dham is the one who looks like he has a great handle and when you combine it with his quickness, he's possibly better than any wing that I can remember at UConn in that way. Caron had a good handle, but not as quick.

I don't know how they judge a persons ranking by either potential or what they have accomplished in high school. I judge by my own eyeball test. With that being said its crazy how Jalen Adams isn't the #1 pg but time will show it.
