However, they were 1 and done in the big dance repeatedly, save for the 63-64 run which got them into the Eastern regional finals against Duke, who waxed them severely. Remember they also rejected a bid to the NIT, after losing the playoff game to URI, which drove, then head coach, Fred Shabel to Penn. Yes Connecticut did have many home grown talented players in state. But these players went on to other schools, not UConn.
