-> Go ahead, give the young UConn players a ton of credit. After weeks of being beaten up, with 12 players out for the season with injuries, they delivered the message that they are not giving up on this season, no matter who may give up on them. Mora vowed not to let that happen and the players continue to fight for a way forward.
“We’ve got a lot of guys who continue to believe,” Mora said. “I’ve told you guys a lot, and UConn fans a lot, but these guys are little bit different. I know those start to sound like empty words after a while, like coach-speak. But they’ve been through a lot, and it’s built a resiliency.” <-
-> When darkness descended, the cold, hard facts were what they were. UConn is 2-4, but this, too, is a fact: there is hope now, some kind of goals are in sight. A path to winning games is open. With defense as a signature, and a few more plays on offense, the Huskies can win some games before this season is over. Florida International and Ball State are next.
“Certainly, a win like this helps [players] believe in what we’re doing,” Mora said. “It has not been easy on these young men, and it was fun to see them enjoying it and enjoying each other.” <-
