Since Diaco got hired by NB. does it relieves some $$$$ from his buy out? The question was asked on this board but I cannot find an explanation. Thanks.

Probably not. Nebraska is getting ripped off, though. Over $800k for Diaco is crazy, even if he is a good defensive coordinator.

There is no new employment salary offset language or clauses in either the released initial contract or the extension.

I am surprised he was able to get this good of a job. I thought he would have to either be a D.C. at a lower level P5 school or a LB coach at a top p5 school. Surprised Nebraska took this chance.

Surprised also... but the Broyles Award with ND credentialing and national title game appear pretty strong on a resume.

He was a great coordinator at a high level P5 school. The fact he was a poor head coach doesn't diminish that.

True, and he's also a great salesman, who has an outstanding agent.

I will go out on a limb here and say that the quality of this years recruiting class proves that that Turd is NOT a great salesman!

A $3.4 million payout and a $825,000 salary going to $875,000 next year - if that's not successful selling what is?

UMD is paying $1 million to Edsall till 2019. Edsall also has a good agent, apparently.

It's a symptom of a broken system that is going to collapse on itself.

From today's Jeff Jacob's article:

"Benedict also confirmed that Diaco, who just signed for $825,000 this year as defensive coordinator for Nebraska, would not have to pay back any of the $3.4 million buyout he got from UConn."

This is even better. The 9'ers are paying some SERIOUS buy out money( $70,000,000+) to two fired coaches, Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly! Spit happens!

While the rule of thumb is to always to expect the unexpected in the NFL, it still came as a surprise on Sunday night when the San Francisco 49ers fired Chip Kelly after just one season with the team. While no coach should be in comfortable standing after a 2-14 season, it was still a bold and costly move by the team to fire a coach after one season after doing the same to Jim Tomsula, the coach Kelly replaced.

Chip Kelly was fired by the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday evening, but Tuesday is was reported that several Division I schools could have interest in him to coach next season.

Tomsula was working on a four-year, $14 million contract that still runs for two more seasons at $3.5 million per year and now the 49ers will also owe Kelly $6 million per year through the 2019 season. These contracts, along with those of Tomsula’s and Kelly’s assistants and former general manager Trent Baalke, will reportedly cost the 49ers upwards of $70 million. And that doesn’t factor in the costs of whoever will run the team in 2017 and beyond. Wowsa! I'm in the wrong profession!
