It's obvious that in this round, the be was the carcass to be picked at and left for dead. It was the weakest conference and easiest to go after. There is no doubt that the intent was to reduce the be to nothing, and grab its share of the BCS monies.

In 12 years the acc will be in the exact same spot except the stakes will be higher. The sec and big10, both of which will possibly look to expand will go after the acc.

It's possible, the only thing to keep the acc in the 'big 5' next round is to include the be in the big six...

Swofford to ACC Presidents: "Alert! Alert! We've just realized that for the ACC to survive, it needs a strong Big East. We need to make sure the top 5 conferences give lots of national playoff and BCS bowl money to the Big East!"

ACC Presidents: "Wait, I thought the point of bringing in Syracuse, Pitt, etc was that we wouldn't have to share national playoff and BCS bowl money with the Big East, creating a bigger pot for ourselves. Are you saying it was a mistake to bring in those teams?"

Swofford: "No! We should take in the teams and give away the money. That's what our strategic analyst Marty says is best for the ACC!"

As long as two of the following: FSU, Clemson, VT, Miami are respectable in any given year, the ACC has nothing to worry about. They will retain their position, earned or not.
