I don't want to bash the guy in what he does to support his family and make a living, but what's going on here? The last few Des articles I've read have been abound with simple errors and it's getting to the point where it's sort of embarrassing. If he'd taken one simple glance at the piece, he'd immediately see the mistakes. 'Lower lef injury' and 'Bradleu' are simple typos that don't impact content, but it really just reflects poorly.

I see that a lot, not just with Desmond Conner. But yes, I agree. I find it hard to believe the Courant lets that stuff go to press without being proof read. Back in the day that never would have happened and folks might lose their jobs.

Des doesn't feel that spelling, grammar and punctuation need to be correct when he makes a post to his "blog".

Right? Like I know it's just a blog, but isn't there some kind of editor

Can't fix print content so editing is critical... maybe not so much for on-line stuff.

It would be funny it people spent a day at the Courant to really understand the shoestring budget they operate on.

The interwebs have not been kind to print media anywhere.

I'm of the age where I text all day and use my my phone for everything possible. However, I am old enough that I can't text in short form. I have to use commas etc. It just seems too risky. I don't want people I don't know well thinking I am illiterate. However, I work with younger, very well educated people that write great stuff when needed and they text like 50 Cent.

They might agree with Dez that quick expressions of thought on blogs and social media don't require proper grammar and punctuation.

I guess it's both an art form and valid communication medium but I mourn the loss of long form writing skills. I work with a lot of well educated people that have no concept of composition in writing.

I study philosophy, so I guess I get a little more up in arms about proper exposition than some. I see where people are coming from--it is a blog and I guess that blogs don't have to be perfect. I just like to think that I'm getting a well thought out product when our state's newspaper publishes something

There must be so much pressure to check your post for spelling, grammar and composition when you start a sentence with 'I study philosophy.'

How much is Dez getting paid to blog? It's one thing to fire stuff off on twitter, but the paper's blog should have some semblance of professionalism.

It's a business trying to make money. Are you willing to pay more for the workproduct if it wasn't typed on a phone and has a couple of misspellings? Of course not so how is the standard what you think a free product should represent?

We are probably a couple of seasons from having almost no UConn football coverage in the local press. You'll long for the days when typos were the complaint.

Yeah, I think Dez was the only CT writer sent down for the Tulane game. Normally I don't pay attention to that stuff, but it really speaks to what Whaler just said. Soon you'll just an AP article from the games with none of the stuff you're used to post game wise from the players and coaches. I know I will miss that .

He's done this for years. He originally posted that Kanappe was from Belgium, France I believe.

Wow. That was unreadable.

Kind of impressed he was able to spell "Bradley" three different ways though - none of which would be included a "Bradly."
