remind you of KEA and Moore? thats all i've thought for the past few seasons... even their swag and emotions for the most part are like KEA and Moores

Well, it's two starting point guards in the same back court. Early in his career Shabazz reminded me of El-Amin, but lately he's more reserved and Boat is the flashier one.
I can sort of see it.

I know it's an over-used word, especially among teenagers, but I was thinking the other day about how much swagger this backcourt plays with. Think about it: Shabazz is from Roxbury, Calhoun is from Brooklyn, and Boatright is from Chicago. All inner-city kids with an excess of confidence (maybe too much, at times) who don't give a who's lining up across from them. Kemba was the same way, Khalid was the same way, Ricky was the same way, Kevin was the same way, etc. The list goes on - I really think the UConn coaching staff seeks kids like these out, kids that have a chip on their shoulder and embrace the "*k you" mindset this program was founded upon. Personally, I love having kids like these in the program. It makes the games more fun when the kids think they're better than they are.

Shabazz and boat stay, best backcourt in Uconn history.

No. We haven't had anyone like Ricky since... well, since Ricky.

No. The only similarity is that we are playing with two point guards. But we have done that a lot over the years

When Bazz first got here he reminded me of KEA but I think he has clearly turned into a very unique player. He'll go down as an all time great Husky when it's all said and done.

If Boatright reminds me of anyone it's a young Kemba. Can be a little out of control. Shot comes and goes. Tends to over penetrate at times, although less so this year. If he can make half the Sophomore-Junior jump that Kemba did he'll have a very special year next year.

It will take a lot to take that title away from Kemba-Lamb.

Well, that is debatable. Kemba had the greatest season ever and Lamb was a nice complement. Khalid was the glue who brought the cockiness/confidence that was missing from a group of almost too nice teammates. He had moxie like no one before or since, even as a freshman. He was much better than Kemba as a freshman and sophomore. Ricky emerged as a senior as the most tenacious, effective on man defender in the Calhoun era. That team was tough as nails mentally. I think overall, they were the best guard tandem.

Yea, neither remind me of the stated players. Bazz, to me, is most reminiscent of BG. More of a leader and floor general of course, but he can also be somewhat enigmatic. Streaky and can sometimes disappear but able to take over at will seemingly. One more year and I think he'll learn how to dominate for a full 40 minutes whether by being a scorer or playmaker.

Boat right now is a poor man's Kemba, which is saying a lot since he's only a soph. If he can develop, what I feel, is an underused but potentially reliable midrange game, along with a slight uptick in his 3-point %, he could be an even deadlier scorer. For all his quickness I feel like he uses it in the wrong ways sometimes. Instead of staying in front of his man on D, he often cheats and tries to guess where he might end up in hopes of a steal or a jump in the passing lane. If Ricky could teach him one thing (and lateral quickness, as well as a great center of balance and lower body strength, were the keys to Ricky's great D) it would be to stay with and in front of his man without fouling. Those things as well as fine-tuning his shot selection to benefit his distributing skills, could really turn Boat into a bonafide star.

Either way, if both stay, next year could be a banner year with their presumed year-over-year growth.

The confidence and swagger part yes. And the interchangeability of starting the offense from either side of the court, yes.

But Ricky was a much better defender than either Boat or Bazz and wasn't nearly the scorer that the two of them are.

I guess I was trying to say two small guards who play extremely well together and never backdown from a challenge. Didn't meant exact skill set or anything like that
