After literally filling the Garden for the East Regional Final(which is just the icing on the cake that is our long and glorious hoops history), the B1G and ACC HAVE to be having the mother of all second guesses/regrets about kicking us to the curb(and don't tell me that either Maryland's or Rutgers' football programs provide any dramatic leverage for their respective institutions). I really don't expect us to be jumping ship in the next year or two BUT would it be unreasonable to think that discussions,at the very least, have to be planned for the relatively near future about our future? Personally I want no part of the ACC but would love a spot in the B1G(while not a football fan it would be a much better environment for our program imo) where imo the style of hoops across the league suits our style of play real fine.

The B1G had 3 teams in the Elite Eight, can't argue that it's a fine hoops league. UConn would do well there. Football we'd be competitive.

I personally feel like if these other conferences didn't want UConn when it had won 3 championships since 1999, they aren't going to be convinced by adding 1 more.

There probably wasn't any concern about the stature of our basketball programs and what they would bring to the table. This has always been about money and which schools can bring more. Perhaps the men opened some eyes about how UConn can help deliver the NYC market. That is likely the only thing that will get us an invite.

I think you underestimating the thinking that a post JC UConn would fall into irrelevancy.

Saying Uconn football would be competitive in one of the top 5 confrences for football in the country after having one of its worst football years is a stretch. Yea you could say recruits would want to come to them now that they are a B1G school but being competitive wouldn't happen till way down the road.

It's clearly nothing about winning or NYC since UConn would already be in the Big10, it's also not about football since Rutgers and Maryland were invited. Personally I could care less right now, all we do is win.

My feeling about this has always been that if UConn were in the Big 10, football recruits from the northeast would see us as a real option - maybe even the best option. Team improves, fanbase grows, etc, etc. Basketball doesn't skip a beat.

Like I said, they just don't want UConn no matter how many championships. Because they don't care about basketball. We could have JC and 3 more championships and I don't think they'd care.

Didn't we beat a team called Indiana when we opened the Rent? While we had a full group of 85 scholarships, we were still transitioning in terms of getting bigger and faster.

Put it this way...if we get the call in the next 2 years, and it takes 2 years to get out, we will be competitive with at least 50% of the ACC or the B1G.

It's not a stretch because thats the goal UConn has a program to win championships.. UConn won 2 Big East Championships in the short time it was there with 2 star recruits.

I dont know much about Diaco's X's and O's but the guy like Ollie has his ways with words if you guys havent seen his press conference when he was hired you should watch it he will be a great salesman for the program and a motivator

On average I would expect us to be 500 in conference and 2/3 wins OOC each year. We would increase the level players interested in UConn and the rent would need 60k for Most games. The football program would be more successful then Indiana, Purdue, Rutgers, Illinoi. Heck with a crap coach we lost to Michigan by 3 in a game we could have won.

UCONN in the B1G would absolutely be a boost for football. Like you said, UCONN can be competitive with those schools you listed and I'd add Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern and Maryland to that group. Basketball wouldn't skip a beat.

It is about the NY metro market. The ACC didn't get the market with Syracuse, the new BE didn't get it with St. Johns and the Big certainly didn't get it with Rutgers. Even UConn which may be the strongest won't deliver the NYC market because like Boston, NYC is a pro sports city. Looking at those 4 schools there is no question that UConn is the most desirable team because eventually you have to win something. New York doesn't handle losing well.

Personally I'm glad to not be in the AAC. I just don't like that conference, its too dook heavy. cuse and ville will find that out. That conference rewards mediocrity, and I don't want any part. I may be crazy but for right now us being in the AAC is better than being in the ACC. We we get selected it will be to a more neutral based conference. In the Big 10 (?) Wisconsin is getting all the attention this week, and rightfully so. The ACC has no representation, but even when Virginia was going strong, the focus was still on dook (e.g. what they need to do to get better).

Give me a neutral blended top conference any day than an addition to the dook conference known as the ACC. Plus its weak.

It's all about money though, Kita. If the AAC's TV contract weren't so terribly, terribly, terribly awful, I would probably agree. Even if it were half of the ACC's contract, I could live with it, but it's not even close.

The 1st, 2nd, & 3rd reasons we need to leave the AAC are the TV contract. I could live with Tulsa, Tulane, & ECU if ESPN were paying us $7M a year.

Of course we would be competitive. I'm not sure people realize how bad the bottom of the B1G is. Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, Iowa, Rutgers, Maryland These are not powerhouses. Of course we would be competitive.

It's not about markets because the ACC took L'ville.

It's not about winning because the B10 took Rutgers.

So what is it about?
