Anyone living NOT in the NY metropolitan area - I have dish and am being told even if I get their premium sports package, it does NOT include SNY because I live in California. Can anyone else confirm this? I ended up talking to some guy in India and am not 100% sure - want to confirm before I switch back to ATT Uverse. Thanks...

DirecTV has SNY, at least in NV, so probably CA. Just another choice.

I looked at SNY's cable/satellite affiliate list and Dish wasn't on there. I also didn't see SNY in dish's sports pack.

Grateful that I chose DirecTV when I moved. (I actually chose so I could get Disney Jr because I hate Nickelodeon. I didn't THINK about whether I'd get SNY.)

Ouch. That kinda sucks if it's true. My other thought (previously) had been maybe the guy was talking about local pro sports. In which case, yeah, that's true. I can't watch the Detroit Red Wings (or whatever) on Fox Sports Detroit because it's blacked out in Iowa. (Boo...)

Here is what SNY says:
Q: I live outside of SportsNet New York's regional viewing area, how can I receive the network?
A: SportsNet New York is available outside its regional broadcast territory through DIRECTV on channel 625 and through DISH Network on channel 438. DIRECTV customers who live outside SNY's region must subscribe to the DIRECTV SPORTS Pack, which is available a la carte throughout the United States to all DIRECTV customers. DISH Network customers, who subscribe to America's Top 60+, DishHD Silver or any higher package, now have access to SNY on channel 438.
However, to view New York Mets games outside the regional viewing area, customers must also subscribe to the MLB Extra Innings package available from your cable or satellite provider. This requirement is due to Major League Baseball rules that prohibit local team
partners from infringing on other teams' territories.
Your rep may have been talking about the local pro sports programs which are often blocked, but the Uconn programming should be available countrywide. On ATTUverse I believe it is only available if you get their digital HD package - I had a momentary panic when I couldn't find in on the SD channel list

I have DISH as well and I was told I cannot get SNY, no way, no how. If I wanted to shift to Direct TV, I could buy a premium package and get SNY, but it would cost a lot more and we watch almost no TV other than the games, so there is no point in that.

My problem is that if I get SNY, I cannot seem to get it to play on my TV (which is hitched to a computer). So my wife and I had to watch it on my laptop screen, which is not exactly the best way to do it. So yes, we get the games but no, it's isn't exactly th way we planned it.

Maybe this year will be better. Yeah, right.

I decided to switch back to ATT Uverse. They have a premium sports package that includes SNY and it's worth it to see all the women's games and maybe some of the men's games.

Its not an option here, but just curious - do you get the PAC12 network (or could you if you wanted it is what I'm really asking).

I am a huge DirecTV supporter, but it really annoys us because they will not carry the PAC12 network, - for example, our AZ game this week is away and on TV but we can't get it. The 2 main advantages of DirecTV is the NFL Sunday Ticket (necessary for us to see our weekly Giants game and we actually watch selected other games as well) plus the 30 or so Fox local stations that are mainstays of our WBB viewing, although actually coverage has decreased as computer coverage has increased.

Have no idea how to watch computer games on TV, although I know it is technically possible and I know that our TV is supposed to support it, so the only computer games we watch are selected Rutgers games.

After reading all these posts about this stuff on various message board, I am thankful that I have Time Warner Cable. We get everything you could imagine, you just have to pay out the nose for it.

It's actually old school nowadays, but just hook an HDMI cable up from your computer to your TV. Pretty much any TV/computer less than 5 years old will have HDMI connections. I do it quite often. HDMI cables aren't cheap but you can get one at any Best Buy/Radioshack.

Since I retired and moved out of CT, I have had to rely on streaming, first from CPTV and now from SNY, to my laptop or desktop computer to watch games, and I've noted how many BYers have had trouble with that kind of setup. (BTW, no SNY on TWC up here in Maine.) How well the streamed services work depends on 1) speed/bandwidth of streaming services signal; CPTV's signal got better over time, but SNY's was strong throughout last season. 2) the speed/bandwidth of your internet provider's signal; I upped my speed with TWC Cable service, and that has locked in a strong, steady signal.
3) paying attention to SNY's recommendations about settings and browser extensions.

Last season, I streamed the SNY service to my MacBook Air and hooked that up to a 60" flatscreen Sony. It was sweet! The picture was steady-- a few rare freezes--and quite clear, even with a screen that size. I used a single HDMI cable from laptop to Sony for both picture and sound, the best way to go if your computer has either an HDMI output or a "dongle" to convert your display output to an HDMI signal. I'll try the same setup for the exhibition games' streaming via All-Access

I do wish SNY offered full streaming of press conferences, Geno shows, etc, but I'll take the games they stream, especially given the high-quality of the image and sound. Good luck with your setups.

if you have a fairly new flat screen you can get an HDMI cable that will connect your laptop to your TV and show the game on your TV. HDMI cables can be found for as little as $5

Fascinating, thanks - the HDMI cable isn't a problem. I never knew you could connect directly - my TV supposedly has a wireless capability that we haven't been able to harness, and I guess I was focusing on that.

Sort of overlooking the obvious, I guess. Will get a cable and give it a try should some game be particularly appealing.

Thanks for all this. I'll try to adapt some of it to our setup. We have a flatscreen TV and a computer slaved to it. I think the problem may have been the computer last year. We kept calling SNY and getting their technical advice -- not easy to get those folks to answer the phone, but they were helpful when we could get through -- and sometimes it works and mostly it didn't. I'll try your suggestions, coupled with an upgraded computer this year.

Our service here in Guatemala is very slow, seldom topping 1 mb. We subscribed to SNY last season, but actually got to see about maybe 3 games more or less entire, so it was a total waste. I seem to remember reading that it would be cheaper this season, so mebbe we will try again. It is a real pain in the butt to have to watch those little colored clothespins bouncing around on gametracker. Takes more imagination than I have left to try to visualize the actual action.

So far I've resisted paying for HuskyVision to watch snippets of the preseason games (mixed in with what sounds like shots of the band, student section and other non-game action), but it gets tougher every day. Good thing we're less than a week away from the real games.

Couldn't find the streaming link on the SNY site, either, but I'm glad I'm not the only one (misery does, indeed, love lots of company)...if any of you fine folks spot the link before I do, give a virtual holler down here to Fort Myers.
