"One of the first conversations I ever had with Kelly Faris, she said that after my visit, she thought I was coming," Ogwumike said. "This was my second choice if I didn't go to Stanford. I had a great relationship with Coach Geno (Auriemma) and CD (associate head coach Chris Dailey). There are some people you operate on the same wavelength with. To say I do with Geno is sort of scary, but we do.

"We're both very ambitious people and he knows what I want," she said. "I think that's why he wasn't hurt that I chose Stanford. He knew what type of player I'd be at Stanford. I was very close to coming. I loved the history and the legacy of the UConn program. It came down to where I could maximize my potential academically."

Ah, but how much further would that 90-game streak have been extended had Chiney been a UConn freshman during the 2010-11 season???

At the end of the day she chose what was best for her all around I can't fault her with that and I admire her. she has pretty good strength of character to be able to look at the whole picture, and make her choice based on her overall objectives, despite the very strong pull with UConn athletics. And this explains a hug after the game in her freshman year. She's a sweet kid.

I'm thinking we may see Chiney as a member of USA Basketball with Geno as coach, and that will be fun to watch.

In my view, it's a near-certainty both Nneka and Chiney will play for Team USA- possibly for the FIBA championships, definitely for the 2016 Olympics. This will be a fun team with the two of them, especially if BG is up for it. Throw in EDD, Maya, and Tina, and that be only half of one hell of a team...

Well, first Stanford would not have beaten us with Chiney on OUR side. Second, ND would not have beaten us when Stef got into foul trouble.

I know it's poor form to answer a question with a question, but I think this makes the point:

How many games have we played since we won 90 in a row?

I think Nneka may make it. Assuming no injuries, I think our team in Turkey is the 2012 team less Swin and Asjha plus Elena and Stewie. I take them because of their size and scoring, including from the arc. Plus Stewie is a hell of a defender. I thought about Griner, but I think Stewie does more.

Did I not recently read that the Ogwumike sisters and Roslyn Gold-Onwude are likely to play for the Nigerian national team? Natalie Ochonwa has been playing for Canada, but it would be interesting competition discussion if she would choose to play for Nigeria along with the aforementioned Stanford grads.
