I watched games yesterday at 5 venues, including the replay of the Mater Dei game. I noticed that there were "hundreds" of fans in the stands. When I watched the game at the Mohegan Sun facility, I noticed "thousands" of fans in the stands.

I noticed the attendance at the ACC final yesterday in Greensboro between Florida State and ND was higher than the attendance in the Connecticut casinos yesterday for the UCONN home game.

Semi final game attendance at the American at Mohegan Sun 6,500+ . Almost identical to ACC final in Greensboro 6,500+

You missed my point..... the game was in Greensboro NC between FSU and ND... schools located hundreds of miles from Greensboro......... vs a defacto home game for UCONN. And it wasnt "hundreds" of fans in the seats here .... as the original poster suggested.

And the game in Greensboro was the conference finals, and Mohegan Sun game, not.

The original poster referenced the Mater Dei game crowd and not the ND game attendance.

The original poster stated that watched games at five venues yesterday including the replay high school game. I took it as a shot at the number of fans in attendance on the games shown on TV yesterday.... the conference championship games. Not sure if he meant he was referring to games he attended in person yesterday (that would be a great accomplishment), or those he watched on TV.

Maybe i interpreted it wrong.

And the game at the Mohegan Sun was a UCONN based game in the state of Connecticut... as opposed to a game between teams in Florida and Indiana played in central NC.

This post is a little confusing. Which venue/game had "hundreds" of fans in the stands? Do you mean all 5 of the venues had "hundreds" except at the Mohegan Sun? Please elaborate.

I thought the attendance at the Sun was disappointing for a conference semi final. The upper bowl was probably only 1/3rd full. Of course the attendance for the Tulane/USF game was dismal, even though it was a good game. Official attendance is listed as 6500+ but I doubt if there were 9 fans in the seats.

Capacity for Mohegan is 9518 for basketball. Don't know about splits. Attendance yesterday was: ACC final: 6874, AAC semi: 6531, SEC final: 5819, PAC final: 4864, B12 semi: 4580, B10 final: 4131

Generally the attendance for the P5 games and the AAC were well down this year. Only the PAC was up, by 1.7% from last year. The B12 was down 7.5%, the SEC was down 11.1%, the AAC was down 14.4%, the ACC was down 16.0%, and the B10 was down 28.1%.

There are many factors that could go into the attendance decline, and the venues were different last year for the B10, B12, and SEC. Last year's ACC final in Greensboro featured ND and Duke rather than the less popular ND and FSU, and the AAC final would be a more popular UConn and Louisville duo rather than UConn and USF, and Rutgers was still around for the semi game on Sunday last year. The Nebraska and Iowa match up for the B10 in Indianapolis last year was much better attended than this year's Maryland and Ohio State game at the Sears Centre near Chicago. Stanford and Cal were clearly more popular in Seattle this year than were USC and Oregon State last year. The two teams in the SEC final this year have the top home attendance of all WCBB teams, but USCar and UTenn at Little Rock could not get close to Columbia and Knoxville figures.

The AAC final last year saw a jump of 400 from the Saturday semi games, and if the same jump occurs this year the AAC final could end up having the top attendance for a conference final. Last year the ACC was 156 ahead.

Capacity is 10K. I don't know the split but I would say that the lower bowl is quite a bit larger than the upper part.

Last year the ACC semi's featured NC State, Duke, and UNC...... so the attendance drop was expected. Also the ACC switched up the weekend schedule from last year..... last years semi-finals were held at 5pm and 7:30pm as opposed to 12 noon and 2:30pm this year. The final last year was at 7pm as opposed to 1pm yesterday. I actually liked having the later semi-finals last year... and it was fairer for the players as well.

While the ACC has the best attended tourney....... it has declined in recent years.... not sure what the answer is in terms of reversing that trend.

Last year the semi's were in the afternoon. Makes it better for many of us to attend.

Yeah, so actually a little drop in attendance from the semi's number for the AAC, but it still put four of the five P5 conferences to shame. Another year or so and the AAC will be leaving the P5s in the dust and teams like Duke and Notre Dame and Stanford will be begging to get into it. But I hope the AAC just spurns them and tells them to just take their fancy airs and pretensions and just move along.

Was it turnstile or ticket sales?

WCBB is an outstanding and underappreciated game, and I wish every venue and every contest would be a sellout. I'd have liked to have seen a sellout at Mohegan Sun, but 6,500 is pretty darn good (semis and championship) considering the ridiculously treacherous snow, ice and travel conditions we've endured this past month and the fact that the championship outcome was really never in doubt. Be that as it may, the Big Bad SEC tourney in Little Rock never drew more than 5,500 for ANY game other than the SC/Tenn final, and that only drew 5,800. Bottom line- attendance all over is a troubling issue for a game that deserves much better support.
(In the end, I applaud SC and Tenn for their great attendance numbers, but getting beyond all the puffery and rivalry angst, championships are won on the court, not at the turnstiles. Go UConn.)

5-6k looks like hundreds in the stands when you put them in 17-23k arenas.

The official attendance was lower last night but it sure looked as if there were more fans present. There seemed to be twice as many fans in the upper bowl.

As an aside - TICKETMASTER SUX!
