The article is by Drew Sharp from The Detroit Free Press and can't find on their web site but was in today's Waterbury Republican-American. I know I can't, for obvious reasons, reproduce the entire article here but here is a quote.

From Joe Dumars, "We.ve waited a long time to get specifically this kind of big man."

The actually went as far back as Andre's sixth grade teacher to develop background information before making the choice. The were stunned he was still available and the entire organization(while realizing how much work he still has to do) are thrilled to have him.

The fans seem to be of similar mindset.

I thought this quote rang true, "But that is probably more of an indication that he really hasn't learned the difference between true hard work and what he thinks is hard work." It looks like the Pistons are committed to creating a situation that will bring out the best in Andre.

Which doesn't make him any different than 99.99% of all teenagers, and about 75% of all adults.

It's amazing how far someone can get in life be outworking their peers.

I know its been said before but i really wish we got to see Drummond for another year. I think the production of Drummond as a sophmore would have been miles ahead of his first year.

If Drummond came back, he'd either quiet the scouts' criticisms and maybe be drafted top-3 (which is where he was projected before this season anyway) or further reinforce them and plummet late into the first round a la Sullinger and PJ3.

AD will be a good fit in MoTown...Monroe can play more his natural 4 & Monroe is an outstanding interior passer (something which was absent at UConn...AO & Roscoe were awful passers), so even though their guards are poor passers there will be plenty of AD dunks next year.

The great centers of old started their NBA careers around the age of 22-23. AD is just 18, so you have to give him 4-5 years to catch-up.

I read somewhere that the Pistons are going to love using him with Greg Monroe and is a tremendous defensive force. Nonetheless Andre going to love it in Detroit.

It's all in the quality of the work. Just ask those investment banker associates who work 23 hr days.

The results of last season aside, I'm really glad Andre came to UConn. There were numerous times this season when I was able to see him in person do something that made my dad and I turn to each other and say, "WOW!" And that's what being a sports fan is about.

Like some others here, I don't have a favorite NBA team. I latch onto the teams my favorite UConn alums are on, when Detroit went to all those ECFs and won a championship with Rip, I was a huge Pistons fan. Just glad that I'll be able to root for Andre like I do all other UConn grads. I don't know what I would have thought of Andre had he gone from prep to the NBA.
