The player who wins CPOY award is likely to get more NPOY votes than a player that did not win CPOY and would require a voter to cast a vote contrary to what the conference coaches have voted. Speaking of documented criteria keep in mind that there are multiple NPOY awards one of which is the Wade trophy for which freshman are not eligible. This resulted in NaLyssa Smith winning the award over Paige in '21.
